Badminton player Chi Lin Wang teams up with an old friend to take Olympic gold

Badminton players Chi Lin Wang and Yang Lee have known each other since junior high school, and this familiarity likely contributed to their powerhouse pairing when they decided to team up for the first time in 2019. Wang’s previous doubles partner Hung-ling Chen had just retired but saw the potential in Wang’s and Lee’s complementary styles. He is now the duo’s coach.

Wang and Lee made their Olympic debut in Tokyo where they narrowly scraped out of the group stage, only to keep gaining strength, finally eliminating China in the finals and taking Taiwan’s first Olympic gold in badminton. The pair are currently ranked third in the world. Wang developed a love for the sport at a very young age, having been introduced to the sport by his parents as soon he could walk. At 17, Wang earned a place on the national elite squad.
