The Princess of Wales made notable jewellery choices for the historic occasion—while matching with her daughter Princess Charlotte
Kate Middleton made nothing less than a grand entrance to King Charles’s Coronation on May 6. The historic event, which took place at Westminster Abbey in London, saw the Princess of Wales arriving in regal blue and red satin robes, under which she wore a stunning Alexander McQueen ivory silk gown with floral embroidery. But what stood out the most were the British royal’s jewels.
Middleton paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing the latter’s pearl and diamond earrings. Princess Diana, who was famously a fan of pearls, wore the glittering jewels to several formal occasions throughout the ‘90s. Most notably, she donned the earrings on her last official trip with her former husband, then known as Prince Charles, in South Korea in 1992.

Middleton has also worn the earrings prior to King Charles’s coronation today. The princess opted for Diana’s beloved jewels when attending the Bafta Awards in 2019. The earrings matched splendidly with Middleton’s white Alexander McQueen gown, which she also recently rewore to the Bafta Awards in 2023.

Middleton’s coronation outfit also offered another spectacular jewellery choice: her tiara. The headpiece, designed in collaboration between London milliner Jess Collett and Alexander McQueen, was essentially a crystal-studded flower crown, featuring embroidered blooms and leaves.
What made it all the more special was that Middleton was matching with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, who wore a similar headpiece. The eight-year-old’s headband, also created by Collett, was adorned with silver leaves. It was the perfect finishing touch to the young princess’s ensemble, which, like her mother’s outfit, comprised of a white Alexander McQueen dress and an embroidered cape.
It was certainly a mother-daughter fashion moment for royal fans to remember. Take a closer look below.
