Cover What went down at the private styling workshop unveiling the theme of Tatler Ball 2024

Amid the sweeping panoramas of the Shangri-La Grand Suite, we unveiled this year’s Tatler Ball theme with an exclusive styling workshop

The jewel of the social season and society’s biggest night of fashion is just around the corner. We’re referring, of course, to the 42nd Tatler Ball. The highly anticipated theme has just been revealed, and what better way to herald the occasion than with an intimate styling workshop for our esteemed guests?

As the sun began to set on a golden Thursday evening (September 12), cherished members of our Tatler community made their way to the lavish Grand Suite of Shangri-La Singapore. Excitement was palpable within the exquisite private residence as they eagerly awaited the unveiling of this year’s theme. Finally, it was time.

In case you missed it: Xanadu: The 42nd Tatler Ball’s theme is a celebration of paradise and power

“A dreamy and idyllic world of perfection. That is the theme we have created for this year’s Tatler Ball—Xanadu,” announced Stephanie Tay, Tatler Singapore’s managing director. “Xanadu embodies gratitude, empathy, strength, perfection, and wellness.”

This year’s theme draws inspiration from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s evocative poem Kubla Khan, conjuring visions of an otherworldly paradise. While its origins trace back to the fifth emperor of the Mongol dynasty, it is more the spirit of Xanadu that we are channelling for Tatler’s annual celebration—think etherealism in black tie fashion.

“Unapologetic glamour. Visions of a Shangri-La. Natural radiance and beauty. These are the phrases that immediately come to mind,” shared Adriel Chiun. As Tatler Singapore’s fashion and branded content editor, we’re compelled to heed his guidance. “We turn to enVie de Pois often for all our sartorial needs, and the Tatler Ball is no different,” he continues.

Indeed, the multi-label designer boutique understands the language of glamour, bringing a curated collection of red carpet-ready gowns for our private styling soiree. “Rather than a directive, the theme is open to interpretation,” Chiun said. “You could turn to Sandro Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, shades of sea foam; iridescence and sheen. Or to the English countryside’s sense of renewal, fabric catching in the wind; florals and off-white colourways. But the common denominator is glamour.”

Xanadu allows for a delightful fusion of creativity, encouraging our guests to explore a spectrum of aesthetics from pearlescent shades to feathers and levity in their garments. A dazzling fashion showcase followed, with models parading around the suite in luxurious enVie de Pois ballgowns and towering Christian Louboutin heels, much to the delight of our guests.

Following the runway presentation, the invited ladies had the opportunity to browse through the boutique’s extensive collection, as well as a selection of red-soled signatures curated by Christian Louboutin. Adjacent to the dressing rooms, our guests perused luxury cosmetic products at a vanity counter set up by Armani Beauty, showcasing its commitment to enhancing natural beauty through its innovative offerings.

As the evening drew to a close, our Tatler darlings departed with a renewed sense of inspiration, poised to embody the essence of a modern-day Xanadu—ensuring that the Tatler Ball 2024 will be an unforgettable evening of glamour and sophistication.
