See all the ladies who served up serious style at our 40th anniversary soirée
Was the 2022 Tatler Ball the most stylish event of the year? We’d definitely say so, seeing as how the lovely ladies who descended upon the National Gallery Singapore on Friday evening did so in some of the most impressive ensembles that the red carpet has ever seen. Sequins, feathers, jewels and spectacular trains—our Tatler friends brought the whole works when gracing our 40th anniversary celebration, aligning with this year’s theme, Legendary. Below, we spotlight the best-dressed women of the night.

Longest Train: Vanda Miss Joaquim

Vanda Miss Joaquim did not come to play. Sure, the show-stopping drag queen brought a stuffed kitty with her, but that was the most frivolous detail of her neon-bright ensemble. Her look was an homage to the fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld (Hence the collar! The tie! And the kitty!). The dress, a custom creation by Nazri Isaac, featured a sweeping train that takes immense skill to wear without tripping—especially with thigh-high vinyl stilettos. For Vanda, it was just another night of being a star.
Shiniest Outfit: Shabnam Arashan

“If you want to wear something, just be confident and you’ll rock it.” That’s what our Tatler Style Award honouree told us in her cover story back in September, and it’s surely what she told herself when she showed up to our soirée in a sequinned, abaya-inspired Yasmine Hawa Couture jumpsuit. Shabnam’s sparkle may have come from her outfit, but that magical glow was all her.

Most Ethereal: Serene Tan

Has Serene Tan discovered the most exquisite way to wear a Bulgari Serpenti diamond necklace? With her statement jewel elegantly coiled right above the asymmetrical neckline of her floral Fouad Sarkis gown, Tan seemed to embody the beauty of Botticelli’s Primavera painting.

Most Romantic: Iroshini Chua

Iroshini Chua stepped right out of a fairytale—the kind that Taylor Swift sings about—and onto our red carpet. In her stunning Oscar de la Renta gown, harmoniously styled with a sapphire and diamond ring, she introduced a whole new meaning to the term “society swan”.
Most Hollywood: Liyann Seet

Liyann Seet’s red carpet look checked many boxes. It was inspired by a legend—Marilyn Monroe, to be specific, and her glamorous ensemble in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Seet had the pink satin gown, courtesy of Milla. She had the diamonds. And she had a brilliant sense of timing, because both Monroe and that particular shade of pink are hot in Hollywood right now.

Most Futuristic: Paige Parker

It may be 2022 for the rest of us, but Paige Parker clearly came from a whole other timeline when she graced our red carpet in a sequinned, denim Rick Owens gown that looked right out of Dune. Every detail was unexpected, from its asymmetrical, one-shoulder neckline to the fact that all those shimmering sequins were embroidered on denim. Denim! On the red carpet!
Most Regal: Grace Chong-Tan

Grace Chong-Tan carried herself with all the magnificence of a queen when she showed up with her husband on her arm, both of them in matching gold ensembles. Impressively, Chong-Tan’s lavish metallic brocade gown was half a century old, and crafted by master couturier Oscar de la Renta.
Best Hat: Peggy Jeffs

Peggy Jeffs has made no secret of her admiration for fashion icon Isabella Blow. And it’s clear that the society doyenne has learned a hat trick or two from Blow, because she turned up with a spectacular headpiece designed by Eskpade by Kris Hakim. Embellished with ostrich feathers and an embroidered crane, Jeffs’ hat couldn’t be a better match for her extravagant kimono dress.
Best Accessory: Karen Ong-Tan

Karen Ong-Tan brought a handbag to the ball. Like, literally. As if her sculptural Isabel Sanchis gown wasn’t dramatic enough, the stylish society darling also flaunted gold Schiparelli earrings and a crystal-covered Judith Leiber minaudière that essentially said “talk to the hand”.
Best Décolletage: Loh May-Han

Loh May-Han’s outfit called for a double take, and not just because she looked splendid in her red dress. Made by Moschino, the gown has a playful trompe-l’œil detail that offered the illusion of a sweetheart neckline and a ruby necklace around Loh’s neck. That’s one inventive way to honour Tatler Singapore’s ruby anniversary.
