From Dua Lipa to Megan Fox, see how celebrities are pulling off pink, Barbie-inspired looks this summer
The colour pink has lived many lifetimes in the history of fashion: it appeared as soft, powdery hues in the ballgowns of Christian Dior, it shocked through a satin gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and then it became a symbol of 2000s decadence, popularised by Paris Hilton and the iconic Tina Fey chick-flick Mean Girls.
In 2022, celebrities are not just wearing pink on Wednesdays. The colour has become the official hue of the summer, thanks to a trending aesthetic dubbed “Barbiecore”.
As the name suggests, the look owes much to Mattel’s fashionable doll, who has recently been brought to life by Margot Robbie for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The film isn’t out yet, but photographs of Robbie in bright, bubblegum looks have already sparked a sartorial shift that has even been seen on celebrity goth girl, Megan Fox.

We also have Valentino to thank for fuelling interest in a shocking shade that was once a signature of Else Schiaparelli. For the Italian fashion brand’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli doused his looks in a fuchsia hue that Pantone officially christened as “Valentino Pink PP”. Since then, it has conquered red carpets like the Met Gala and become the preferred pink of stars like Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, Nicola Peltz and Anne Hathaway.
You don’t have to be a Barbie girl to adopt a “think pink” attitude. In fact, you don’t even have to be a girl. Below, we spotlight how celebrities have been working fashion’s latest colour craze in their own way.
