From the most devoted photographer to the best dancers of the night, see the legends who made the 2022 Tatler Ball an unforgettable one

The Tatler Ball 2022 was a night to remember for plenty of reasons. Attended by society swans, industry leaders and other esteemed Tatler friends, the glitzy soirée at National Gallery Singapore was held not just in celebration of Tatler Singapore’s 40th anniversary, but also to honour the influential trailblazers that are making a meaningful impact in Singapore and beyond.

Even if you left the ball without your own award, we would still like to recognise the various efforts of our guests. That’s why we’re unveiling the Unofficial Tatler Awards, spotlighting the heroes who helped make our birthday bash a truly unforgettable one. From the most dedicated photographer of the night to the best dancers that the dance floor saw, read on to see who made our legendary list.

1. Most Punctual Attendee: Rosalynn Tay

Tatler Asia

It wasn’t a race, but Rosalynn Tay was the first to arrive to our soirée; she made it to the top of the stairs of the red carpet at 6pm on the dot. With a twirl to show off her exquisite cape dress, Tay officially kicked off our Tatler Ball.

2. Most Dramatic Entrance: Vanda Miss Joaquim

Vanda Miss Joaquim is a master of making an entrance—that much was clear when she arrived to the red carpet on Friday evening. Between her sweeping neon gown and her undeniable star presence, it was impossible to look away from the drag queen as she turned the red carpet into her very own stage.

3. Best Photographer (and Most Dutiful Son-In-Law): Desmond Ngiam

Remember what we said about getting your loved one to photograph you on the night of Tatler Ball? Well, Desmond Ngiam willingly stepped up to that oh-so-crucial role for the sake of his in-laws Tan Kong King and Tan Khar Nai, capturing them at all their best angles on an iPhone. From the video above, we’d say he did an excellent job.

4. Most Dedicated Husband: Kevin Chua

While it was a remarkable feat for Tatler friend Iroshini Chua to make it to the top of the stairs with that extravagant train of hers, she certainly couldn’t have done it without her husband Kevin Chua by her side. Throughout the night, the latter paid just as much attention as his wife to her dress, ensuring that she could smoothly navigate any tricky corners without tripping on herself. He even brought his own DSLR camera to snap her from all angles and knew to step out of the frame so that his wife could have her time in the limelight at the photo wall. What more could you ask for in a man?

5. Most Coordinated BFFs: Liyann Seet and Shannon Taylor

Tatler Asia

Having a spouse is nice and all, but we all know it’s way more fun to go to a party with your best friend. Liyann Seet and Shannon Taylor had a little Romy and Michele moment when they showed up in stylish off-shoulder satin gowns, and we were obsessed.

6. Most Legendary Photo: Betty Chen and Family

Tatler Singapore cover star Betty Chen commanded a powerful presence the moment she stepped onto the red carpet, and for good reason. A legend in every sense, Chen has spent decades making a difference in society and giving back to the less fortunate—efforts that we recognised the lifelong philanthropist for with the Tatler Diamond Award on the night of the Tatler Ball. We were likewise incredibly honoured when the 96-year-old showed up to our soirée with her family, all in support of Tatler Singapore’s own legacy of leaving an impact.

7. Best Dancers: All the Ladies

Our guests definitely know how to party, and that’s even truer for the glamorous women who attended our birthday bash. With veteran DJ Aldrin spinning on the decks, the likes of Stephanie Lee, Iroshini Chua, Elaine Kim, Tjin Lee and more flaunted their best moves on the dance floor—even with their heels on.
