Tatler Singapore cover star Shabnam Arashan took home the Tatler Style Award at tonight’s Tatler Ball

Shabnam Arashan believes in the power of fashion—that the way one dresses can inspire confidence, transform our mood and express to the world who you are. And tonight, she took home the Tatler Style Award 2022.

Petite, powerful and always poised, Arashan has an impeccable wardrobe which includes one-of-a-kind couture pieces by designers such as Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Georges Hobeika. The first couture gown she owned was by Lebanese designer Georges Chakra, which she wore to the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Some of her favourite ready-to-wear brands and designers include Loewe, Balenciaga, & Other Stories and Tyler McGillivary.

Appearing as Tatler Singapore’s cover star in September, Arashan got candid about leaving her high-flying career as a lawyer to take a more active role in her son’s life, and about her post-pandemic style awakening.

“Women wear many different hats…We’re mothers, daughters, daughters-in-law, wives, CEOs ... what have you,” Arashan told us in her September feature, adding that doesn’t mean women can’t have it all. “How do we do all of this and, at the same time, maintain work-life balance? How can we be the best version of ourselves without losing our sense of style?”

We couldn't wait to see what she would wear to the Tatler Ball, and she certainly didn't disappoint. Arashan rocked up to the ball in a dazzling ensemble by Yassmin Saleh, covered head-to-toe with sequins with a veil-like headpiece to match.

When she went on stage to accept the Tatler Style Award 2022, Arashan made a heartfelt speech about how Covid-19, while “crazy”, inspired many positive changes in our lives.

“I’m sure we all know what the pandemic has done to us, but we have come along way, we've gotten through this and we've come out stronger. We have learned that community, caring and sharing really matters to every one of us,” she said in her speech, which was met with enthusiastic applause. “Thank you to everyone one here who has contributed to my fashion journey, and I hope you have a lovely, lovely evening.”

Before she went off stage, she thanked her husband, Raj Kumaresan, her son, Raoul, and her parents. “Especially my dad,” she said. “I'll always be daddy's little girl.”
