The Hero Award recognises an Asia’s Most Influential honouree who has made a significant social impact through their work, philanthropy or social enterprise

Singapore is a leading biomedical and pharmaceutical hub not just in Asia, but in the world. One of the country’s top trailblazers in the field who is at the forefront of developing new and better healthcare treatments and solutions is this year’s Tatler Hero Award recipient, Dr Dean Ho.

An internationally renowned leader in digital medicine, Ho is the director of The Institute for Digital Medicine at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and director of The N.1 Institute for Health at the National University of Singapore.

Together with his team, he has successfully harnessed AI, or artificial intelligence, to personalise healthcare treatment across various fields, including oncology, digital therapeutics and infectious diseases, among others. Most recently, Ho, who is also a Gen.T honouree, led his team to develop novel treatments against Covid-19, as well as a technology platform to address food security.

Among his list of achievements, Ho was the only Singapore-based honouree to recently be elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, one of the most prestigious honours among innovators worldwide.

Receiving the Hero Award on stage at the National Gallery tonight from Tatler Singapore’s managing director Stephanie Tay, Ho started off his acceptance speech by thanking his wife, Dr. Sarah Ahn, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour four years ago. "Every day that I have with her is a blessing and so I wanted to thank her for being the warrior she is and for being a true inspiration," Ho said.

He then went on to thank the Gen T. community and his team at the institute. "Their dedication to helping patients in Singapore and the world every day is a true inspiration," he concluded before wishing everyone a great night ahead.
