US president Joe Biden’s eldest granddaughter looked to a famous royal bride for her White House wedding ensemble
All eyes were on Naomi Biden as she tied to knot with Peter Neal in a romantic White House wedding last weekend. But it wasn’t just the fact that the bride is the granddaughter of sitting US president Joe Biden that put her in the spotlight—she looked absolutely breathtaking in her white wedding dress.
Biden walked down the aisle in a custom creation by American fashion designer Ralph Lauren, but if it looks familiar, there’s a good reason why: it was inspired by the bridal gown worn by Grace Kelly, the Hollywood icon and former Princess of Monaco.

For her wedding ceremony with Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956, Kelly chose a regal ensemble that has since gone down in history. Working with Hollywood costume designer Helen Rose, she designed a wedding dress with a high neckline, long lace sleeves, and a fitted bodice that flared into a full skirt.
More than 60 years later, you can see the similarities in Biden’s billowing bridal look, which was crafted from Chantilly lace and adorned with organza petals.
There are some notable differences, however. Biden’s Ralph Lauren gown features an off-shoulder design that is popular among brides today, although her décolletage was still elegantly covered with lace. The bride was also crowned with a wedding veil that was much longer than the cathedral-length one that Kelly wore. In a spectacular shot from her wedding, Biden’s veil can be seen sweeping over the stairs leading up to the White House.
To balance the extravagance of her wedding dress, Biden opted for simple bridal jewellery in the form of a Tiffany and Co diamond wedding band, as well as a pair of pearl and diamond Victoria earrings from the American jeweller.
