Conceived by creative director John Galliano, the collection is comprised of 17 fashion-forward designs

The future is bright, and Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster are ahead of the fashion curve. The global eyewear label recently announced its next wave of collaborative designs with Maison Margiela. An eclectic, dream-like campaign shot by Jordan Hemingway reveals a collection of 17 futuristic pieces reflective of the brands’ shared curiosity regarding experimental artistry.

This second instalment will launch worldwide on March 7, accompanied by five pop-up spaces in Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, New York, and Tokyo.

The marriage between Margiela and Gentle Monster began with their first partnership back in 2023. The previous collection included goggle-style glasses in a selection of colourways detailed with the Parisian Maison’s signature four-stitch motif. Similarly, this assortment contextualises both brands’ commitment to avant-garde design, informed by themes of time, inheritance, and androgyny.

This new chapter includes the mask-like MM101 and MM102 sunglass and spectacle designs, which wrap around the contours of the eyes and nose. New artisanal leather-wrapped frames come in black, ivory, khaki, and blue nuances, while the acetate frames are available in shades of black, white, grey, cream, transparent, and tortoiseshell.

Both Gentle Monster and Margiela’s aesthetic leanings are difficult to surpass. The latter’s cult-favourite tabi boots are widely recognised as a staple of Gen Z fashion. Gentle Monster’s stylishly disruptive concept challenges the idea of eyewear as merely an instrument to correct or improve one’s vision.

It’s a tried and true partnership that reflects the epoch of technology, the influence of the digital age and its impact on couture.
