See the stylish red carpet and party outfits worn by members of Blackpink, BTS and Aespa for their Cannes debut
At the Cannes Film Festival 2023, the splendour of the French Riviera met the force of the Hallyu wave. For the first time, quite a number of K-pop stars flew into the South of France to make their red carpet debut at the prestigious film festival, where they rubbed shoulders with Hollywood actors and film industry veterans from all around the world.
This year’s edition of the Cannes is not short of Asian guests: Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh was honoured at the event, while Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai have been dominating the red carpet since the festival kicked off last week. But it has been just as exciting to see South Korea’s biggest music stars from K-pop groups like Blackpink and BTS make an appearance, whether for a film premiere or to attend one of the many glitzy parties taking place around the festival.
Below, we spotlight the most glamorous K-pop stars that we spotted at the Cannes Film Festival 2023.

Much like her appearance at the Met Gala, Jennie made her Cannes debut in graceful fashion. The Blackpink singer was at the festival to promote HBO’s The Idol, which she stars in alongside Lily Rose-Depp and The Weeknd. On the red carpet, she donned a white bustier top with a black tulle cape gathered around her shoulders, paired with a full petticoat skirt in lace and tulle under which peeked her black Chanel peep-toe pumps. Jennie’s ‘50s-style ensemble was originally worn by Kaia Gerber for Chanel’s spring/summer 2020 haute couture fashion show, and she flaunted a similar silhouette for the photocall event the next day. This time, the K-pop star wore a black and white tea-length dress from the Shanghai-based fashion brand Shushu/Tong and black platform heels.

V of BTS

On the same night of the premiere of The Idol, BTS’s V was having his own glamorous moment in the South of France. The K-pop star was at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc for Celine’s Cannes 2023 dinner, where he was joined by Blackpink’s Lisa, South Korean actor Park Bogum and Celine designer Hedi Slimane. V donned a cropped black jacket with a trompe l’oeil bow and silver sequin trimming. He completed his outfit with a black mockneck shirt, a pair of slim pants and pointed boots, all courtesy of Celine.
Lisa of Blackpink

Hardly a week after her dazzling appearance at Bulgari’s high jewellery presentation in Venice, Blackpink’s Lisa offered up yet another spectacular evening ensemble at Celine’s Cannes 2023 dinner. The Money singer sparkled in a sequin pinstripe suit, under which she wore a black sheer ruffled top. And if you ask us, Lisa pulled the suit off better than most of the male guests present.
Rosé of Blackpink

Blackpink’s Rosé made a surprise appearance at the red carpet premiere of Monster looking like a modern-day version of Audrey Hepburn. The singer had her hair pinned back in an up-do that the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star favoured, and she was clad in her own LBD: a draped black Saint Laurent silk gown. For jewels, Rosé kept things simple with a pair of sapphire earrings and a tanzanite ring, both from Tiffany and Co.
Aespa
Aespa became the first K-pop group to ever attend the Cannes Film Festival, and they certainly dressed to impress. On the red carpet, members NingNing, Giselle, Winter and Karina wore gowns in black and white that ranged in style from dramatic—see NingNing’s voluminous Versace print gown—to timeless, like Karina’s strapless black tulle dress. The latter was created by Choi Jaehoon, the same South Korean designer who dressed K-pop star IU for her Cannes debut last year. All four members wore stunning Chopard jewels to complete their looks, as expected of the jewellery brand ambassadors. Aespa later switched things at Chopard’s private party, trading their gowns for LBDs and glittering diamond chokers. Not too bad for a Cannes debut.
