On his birthday, we look at the BTS rapper’s coolest style moments to inspire your own travel wardrobe

K-pop stars have a knack for serving up serious style wherever they may be—on stage, on the red carpet, or even on a plane. BTS member J-Hope is no exception; his adventurous approach to dressing for travel has resulted in fans hailing him as an “airport fashion king”.

Indeed, there is plenty of style inspiration to be found in the rapper’s outfits, which range from sophisticated to streetwear cool. The K-pop star and Louis Vuitton ambassador knows how to layer his coats and jackets, but he can also pull off a simple T-shirt-and-jeans combo with flair. For guys who still haven’t figured out the formula to looking (pardon the pun) fly while in transit, we spotlight J-Hope’s best airport fashion moments below.

When heading to a flight at Incheon International Airport, J-Hope dressed smartly in a black blazer and trousers, but he also added a bright pop of colour into his look via a rare Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama polka dot scarf from 2012. That wasn’t the only limited-edition piece he had on. His carry-on choice was the Louis Vuitton x Nigo monogram duck bag, and he wore the Turbodrk Chuck 70 sneakers designed by Rick Owens.

2. Neon Mohair

While most people dress in low-key ensembles at the airport, J-Hope likes to stand out. Case in point: this fun neon ensemble that he wore to Incheon Airport in 2022, which is topped by Louis Vuitton’s striped mohair cardigan. The knitted piece, which is both cosy and colourful, completely transformed what was otherwise an understated outfit of a black tee and black overalls.

3. Black on Black

Not really feeling the bright colours? J-Hope has found a brilliant way to keep all-black outfits interesting. Here, the K-pop star plays with texture by pairing a knit cardigan with black jeans. The whole look is topped with a crochet Chrome Hearts beanie. A rapper never forgets his bling, and J-Hope’s cardigan notably comes with jewel buttons that add sparkle to his look. But his biggest flex came from his travel bag: a classic Louis Vuitton monogram suitcase.

4. Distressed Denim

One way to immediately turn an outfit with jeans into an edgy ensemble? Make sure your denim has character. J-Hope put together this casual yet cool outfit that features a loose patchwork shirt and baggy jeans, both featuring a light wash and marked by prints, rips and frays. His LV Trainer mules were the perfect shoes for this laid-back look, while his Junya Watanabe beanie reminded everyone that he is very much BTS’ resident fashion lover.

5. Relaxed Neutrals

You’ll find no shortage of travelling businessmen at the airport, but not many dressed as stylishly as J-Hope when he dons a blazer. He ingeniously styled his brown Dior jacket with grey sweatpants, giving a whole new meaning to “business casual”. The neutral colour palette of his look continued through his choice of accessories, namely a Dior mini saddle bag, a slogan beanie, and his Air Jordan 1 sneakers. J-Hope’s outfit allowed for one particular piece to stand out: his striped blue Dior boxers, which peeked out from the waistband of his sweats.
