The rising It girl and newfound entrepreneur pencils in a shopping day at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands amid her packed calendar of dazzling fetes and running her freshly minted pop-up cafe, Watermill
To attend, or not to attend? That is the—first—question Adeline Teo asks herself every single time she gets an event invitation. The stylish ingenue has been attending glamorous soirees since she was a little girl, but as a newfound owner of a two-month-old cafe, she now manages an entirely different schedule and needs to RSVP a lot more selectively.
Currently in its early stages operating as a weekend-only pop-up, Watermill, Teo says, is “growing at her own pace, independently”. And by independently she means she’s literally the one sourcing the ingredients, working with designers for branding collateral, making almost all the coffees orders and manning the cash register—albeit with one assistant, but still, a whole woman department armed with a great love for coffee, and an even greater ambition for the cafe business. “This is, hopefully, just the beginning. I spent the last two years interning and working at cafes, and got my barista certification, because I knew this was an industry I wanted to pursue”.
Since her weekends are dedicated to Watermill, that leaves her very little time for events—and even lesser time to figure out what to wear. Which then leads to her second question when she sees an invitation: “what should I wear?” So on a Monday not too long ago, we decided to go on a shopping spree with her at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, seeking a whole collection of outfits for the select events on her increasingly packed calendar. "So many places to be, so little time—and so many options to pick from...that's the beauty of shopping at The Shoppes, you have pretty much all you could want under one gleaming glass roof".
Her first stop was Louis Vuitton Island Maison—the brand’s one and only floating boutique in the world, a three-level Crystal Pavilion with an outdoor deck reminiscent of a luxury yacht overlooking the water. The sunlit city skyline served as the perfect backdrop through the pavilion’s gleaming glass structure as Teo, a long-term loyal client of Louis Vuitton, frolicked through the women’s collections, slipping into an afternoon tea-perfect turtleneck and skirt ensemble before swapping into breezy separates to head out for some fresh air, all with a Capucines in hand.

Next, she ventured into the fantastical realm of Alexander McQueen. The boutique’s avant-garde designs resonate with her fashionably adventurous side, where she found herself decked in denim-on-denim, fluttering between the female anatomy-inspired collection and dazzlingly embellished bags adorned with crystal-encrusted skull rings. She also channelled the trending “office siren” aesthetic in a white shirt and fringed leather skirt, appropriate for her upcoming luncheons and cocktail parties alike.

Continuing her quest for more occasion-worthy pieces, she made her way to Ralph Lauren where the Purple Label collection awaited. Among the many options perfect for a sleek dinner fete, she discovered floor-sweeping ensembles in the form of an LBD, in this case a long black dress with a gorgeous neckline and thigh-high slit; and a billowy skirt paired with a sparkling gold top and cropped leather blazer. Following a quick soft serve break at Ralph’s Coffee next door, she slipped into what could only be described as a traffic-stopping yet ultra feminine pale pink gown—one with a shoulder-baring silhouette that called for jewellery…and lots of it.

That then brought us to Tiffany & Co., for all the finishing touches a girl could ask for. To contrast the delicate nature of the dress—and then some—Teo zoomed in on more structured and streamlined pieces from the host of Tiffany icons in store. Attentive staff helped the jewellery enthusiast try on pieces from the Lock, T and HardWare collections, all besieged with diamonds and set in an assortment of white, yellow and rose gold.

After traipsing from boutique to boutique, Teo’s day at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands culminated at CUT by Wolfgang Puck. At the bar, she took a leisurely moment to unwind with Rough Love—a lively cocktail comprising Tanqueray, champagne, shiso umeshu and a squeeze of lime—before her friends joined her for a hearty dinner that could’ve only been a seriously indulgent one with Tsarskaya oysters, Kaluga caviar with lemon herb blinis, and perfectly grilled wagyu with perhaps a side of Hokkaido king crab, asparagus and béarnaise.
