Adeline Teo shares how she gained more confidence through a good skincare regime

Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, many of us have turned to various forms of self-care to calm the senses and to be more mindful of our wellness. As such, skincare has become one of the most popular ways to pamper ourselves. But if you thought this method belongs to a more mature crowd, think again.

Tatler society friend Adeline Teo is in her early 20s but she has already gone to great lengths to pay attention to her skin. Considering her porcelain complexion, it's hard to believe that she had battled acne during her teenage years. After these bad experiences faced in high school, she started putting more effort into achieving a flawless visage and also introduced acids into her beauty regime as well.

As much as beauty enthusiasts realise the importance of sunscreen, many tend to realise this only a little later in life. Not Adeline though, this fashion-forward jewellery lover never leaves home without sunscreen—and she makes sure everyone knows this.

How long do you typically spend on your skincare routine?

I normally spend about 10 min in the morning and also 10 min at night on skincare.

What is your skincare routine like for the day?

My skincare is actually really simple. In the morning, I wash my face with cold water, use a La Mer toner, Cle de Peau serum and moisturiser. And a lot of sunscreen!

What is your skincare routine for the night?

At night, I use a Cle de Peau milk cleanser to remove any makeup and I follow up with a benzyl peroxide cleanser. I use the same La Mer toner to clean my face and I apply glycolic acid on my skin on alternate nights to exfoliate my skin!

What was the last skincare product that you bought?

The last skincare product that I bought is Cle de Peau sheet masks!

Are there any new skincare trends that you’re excited to try?

I think I’m not very explorative when it comes to skincare because I have acne-prone and sensitive skin! So unless my skin is acting really well, I try to stick to my everyday routine.

When did you start paying extra attention to your skin?

I think it was when I was in high school where I started becoming more aware of my skin because I would get really bad acne breakouts and it affected my confidence. I started educating myself and learning what’s good for my skin when I started getting bad breakouts in high school.

What’s one skincare must-have you’ve “influenced” others to purchase?

Probably tinted sunscreen. I tell everyone I can’t leave the house without sunscreen.

What’s a skincare product you can’t live without?

La Mer’s toner, Dr Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic serum and sunscreen! I can’t choose!

What’s the most important skincare step to you?

Washing off all the makeup and dirt from your face at the end of my day.

Where and what is your go-to facial?

I go for monthly facials at Beauti Instinct and massage facials at Sulwhasoo! I love silk peel facials and massage facials.

Is skincare the new self-care? What are your thoughts on this?

Of course! I believe to achieve a great makeup look you must first take good care of your skin. Personally, if my skin looks good I feel very confident.

What is one piece of skincare advice that you live by?

Always apply sunscreen.

What is the most unique treatment you’ve done overseas?

I don’t think I’ve done any treatments overseas, I’m not very adventurous. But I do want to go to Korea to try their facials.

What do you think of aesthetic treatments? Will you try them?

I think they are great for making people feel more confident about themselves, I think everyone has different opinions and ideas on how to better their face and if aesthetic treatments can help them achieve that, why not? Maybe in the future when I start ageing or find a certain flaw that bothers me!
