Here are eight of this year’s most memorable fashion moments that would work as fun, tongue-in-cheek Halloween costumes.

1. Valentino Pink

If you haven’t seen this colour everywhere, you’ve been living under a rock. Valentino’s unique shade of fuchsia might be challenging to recreate, but if you wear a head-to-toe pink with a chunky platform heel, everyone will get the gist.

2. Julia Fox’s Black Eyeliner

Actress and model Julia Fox turned heads when she arrived at the Schiaparelli show at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week in January thanks to her dramatic thick black eyeliner. She has since taken to showing off more dramatic looks in the same vein.

Anyone can give this a go—in the words of Fox herself when asked about another one of her striking eye make-up looks at the 2022 Oscars, which later became a meme—“I actually did it myself.”

The “trash pouches” seen at Balenciaga’s spring-summer 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week in March caused quite the stir on social media—and this look can be easily recreated with classic black bin liners. Don’t forget to stomp everywhere too.

4. Gucci Twin

Gucci’s spring-summer 2023 show at Milan Fashion Week, which took place in September, saw 68 pairs of identical twins march down the runway. Each pair were dressed in matching outfits and accessories.

This look is for the ones who love to twin—and you get bonus points if you are a twin. You don’t have to dress in Gucci to emulate the looks from the show (although you can). Opt for a matching look made up of 1960s-inspired pieces in shades of red, purple, gold and mustard—and don’t forget to go heavy on the costume jewellery.

Botter’s spring-summer 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week in March featured models wearing what appeared to be “bubbly” gloves, which were created using condoms filled with water.

While not practical in the slightest, this look will certainly be a talking point at whichever Halloween party you attend. Grab a friend and ask them to help you get them on—and also to hold your drinks for the rest of the night.

6. Miu Miu Miniskirt

The Miu Miu pleated low-rise ultra-miniskirt, which made its debut at the brand’s spring-summer 2022 show last year, has taken the fashion industry by storm—and it’d be an opportunity missed if you didn’t incorporate this trend into your Halloween look.

Shorten any skirt in a neutral colour and add a black belt to become a more fashionable version of whatever you’re planning on dressing up as this year.

With the release of Blonde, a drama based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, this year, we can expect there to be at least one guest dressed as the bombshell at Halloween parties.

Dressing up as Monroe is versatile—she had a variety of looks that remain easily identifiable today. Don a curly blonde wig and red lipstick to recreate her iconic white dress moment from the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch; or emulate the sparkly nude dress she famously wore while singing “Happy Birthday” to US President John F Kennedy in 1962, which was, of course, controversially sported by Kim Kardashian at the 2022 Met Gala.

8. Timothée Chalamet’s Halter Top

Actor Timothée Chalamet stunned crowds when he wore a shimmery, backless halterneck top in red by Haider Ackerman to the Cannes Film Festival this year, and you will, too—even more so if you’re male.

Compared to other entries on this list, a nod to this pop culture moment will be a niche one. But the real fashion enthusiasts will know what you’re referencing.
