What is your skin type?

I have combination skin, though it leans toward the drier side.

What influenced your skincare routine?

No one in particular influenced my routine, but my mom has always had effortlessly beautiful skin and never used too many products; I prefer skincare that is easy and uncomplicated.

How did you find a skincare routine that works for you?

Trial and error, and definitely by pacing myself. I learned to find my own routine by trying product by product over time, not jumping headfirst into using varied products all at once. I think there’s a tendency to follow what you read or see your routine is supposed to be when it really depends on you, your skin, and your preferences at the end of the day.

What are your holy grail products?

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash: this is my favourite of all facial washes I’ve ever tried, and I’m never turning back. Perfect for sensitive skin and cleans off any remaining makeup with ease. My face feels so soft and fresh afterwards, I adore it.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum: I think anyone who uses ANR considers it a holy grail product. The difference in your skin is astounding, I feel a change after literally one use. It’s great to use in the morning too and under makeup. Lifelong product for sure.

My longest-used and most trusted— retinol! I can’t praise it enough. I put just a little every day and it keeps my skin looking clean and fresh and prevents breakouts. This I truly cannot live without. It’s changed how I care for my skin completely; not just a luxury, but a must for me.

What is your evening skincare routine?

1– Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash: I use just a tiny bit, it gets so much done with so little!

2– Origins Mega Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion: I pour a bit of this on my palms and massage over my whole face and neck. It reduces redness and evens out my skin, plus it’s great for the morning too before makeup.

3– Toner: I’m not particular about my brand of toner; whatever I use, I spread with my fingers or a cotton pad.

4– Retinol: I get my retinol from my derma, and since it’s highly concentrated, I dab just a little bit on my t-zone and cheeks so as not to overwhelm my skin.

5– Estée Lauder ANR serum: Everyone’s favourite. I use the tips of my fingers to spread and massage just a little bit all over my face.

6– Moisturiser: The brand of moisturiser changes, depending on what I feel my skin needs that evening— varying in thickness, consistency, richness. When it’s not needed, I avoid using rich moisturizers in succession so it’s not too much for my skin to handle, so changing it up nightly has really worked for me.

What kind of face mask do you use?

I have two that I absolutely love, and for different completely different purposes. One is the cult classic, the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay— confusing name, I know— that does wonders for me when I feel like my face needs to get rid of all the dirt beneath. I use it with water rather than the preferred apple cider vinegar so it’s not too harsh on my skin. It opens up your pores and exposes what’s lurking below. The other is another Origins product, the Retexturising Mask with Rose Clay, which does the opposite— it closes up your pores to leave you with fine, smoothed out skin, while also gently exfoliating. I use it when I want my skin to look more clean and fresh. I don’t use these masks regularly, usually only when I feel my skin needs them.

What is a skincare hack you think we should know?

I have no hacks! Just that you probably don’t need as many products as you’re shown you do. Keep it minimal and do what feels right for you!

Can you tell us a beauty horror story you've experienced?

I once used a brand new eyelash curler that after the first press down, cut off nearly all my lashes close to the root. It was defective, and I didn’t have lashes for months afterwards. I felt awful about it for some time.

Do you ever take a break from skincare?

I’ll take a break maybe once a week or so, but usually, a break for me is minimising my skincare to at least facial wash and moisturiser before bed. I don’t usually put on everything every single night.

What's a skincare rule you've broken that have done wonders to your skin?

Sun exposure is the biggest no-no for anyone who takes the time to care for their skin and while I’m disciplined about sunscreen every day for protection, personally, I really enjoy getting sun. I love getting some colour on my face and love being in the water. Strangely enough, just enough sun time gives my skin a healthy, natural-looking glow that’s difficult to come by otherwise. It’s the best feeling sun-kissed and fresh-faced.
