What is your skin type?

Combination to dry.

What made you start a skincare routine?

I was more of a tomboy growing up so honestly, I knew nothing about beauty regimes, makeup, skincare, you name it. It was only when I first entered the industry through pageantry that I started learning about all of it. Being on stage and being on TV so often meant wearing a lot of makeup, so I definitely needed something to combat all that.

How did you find a skincare routine that works for you?

Trial and error. For a few years there, especially when I was in the thick of pageantry, I had so much makeup on my face every day! I guess it was part of the job. Obviously, that's not great for your skin so I really did experiment with so many products until I realised that nothing beats rest, sleep, water, a healthy lifestyle, a good skincare clinic, and gentle products that don't irritate your skin.

What is your evening skincare routine?

For a while there I used to put so many products on my skin. I think I got caught up in the fads and trends and face masks and all that. Eventually, I realised that less is more so, I like to keep it simple as much as possible. I don't add too much because my skin is dry already so I don't like to strip it of its natural oils. I try to keep it basic with just Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser face wash. Sometimes, I'll add on Kiehl's calendula toner for extra cleansing when I feel like I need it. I also use Benzoyl Peroxide if I see some acne coming up.

What skincare products can you not live without?

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Face Wash—it's gentle on my skin and it doesn't irritate it. It washes away the dirt and keeps my skin clean—plain and simple, no fuss!

Kiehl's Ultra-Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream—I simply can't apply makeup without this! I suppose you could say that I use it as a primer. It leaves my skin feeling fresh, plump and moist - but it's light enough not to cause me any acne breakouts. I really love it and my makeup settles much better on my skin when I have it on.

Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Mist—I often use this midday when I'm tired or when I feel like my skin needs some refreshment. The mist is cold so it feels nice (haha) but most importantly it keeps my skin hydrated and looking healthy and awake.

Do you also use facemasks?

Not so much! I love how relaxing they feel on my skin but honestly, I feel like they can do more harm than good sometimes. If ever I put on a mask though it'll be an icy-cold eye mask to de-stress.

What is a skincare hack you think everyone should know?

Honestly, more than products, Facial Care Center has helped me the most! I really, really love their RevLight treatment because it keeps my skin tight and helps close my pores to prevent further breakouts. Other than that it also helps to even out my skin tone, removing the acne marks and discolouration I have from past breakouts. Every so often, I also do their Honey Almond Facial to exfoliate my skin and remove dead skin cells. It's important because if I don't exfoliate, I always notice the build-up of blackheads and whiteheads that just become worse over time and tempt me to skin-pick (which is a big no-no!)

Can you tell us about a skincare horror story you'll never forget?

Yes! All I can say is that skin picking does more harm than good! I know sometimes we all can't resist popping that pimple but honestly, it does more harm than good! Resist at all costs!

Do you take breaks from skincare?

Well, I've learned to keep my skin routine simple. Less is more. Gentle is better. Don't do too much. I feel like after 5 years in pageantry, I'm skin fasting already and learning that natural is always beautiful. Sometimes those marks and scars make us who we are.
