Dr Nadzri Mokhtar, founder of Nara Clinic talks to us about aesthetic treatments, why looks matter and more

“Imagine visiting a beautiful city with exquisite architecture and gorgeous sceneries; you would instantly be attracted and feel comfortable right? Similarly with our appearance, even if it’s as simple as maintaining our personal hygiene and grooming, it will make a lasting and pleasant impression,” says the Dr Nadzri Mokhtar, who qualified as a doctor in 1999, then specialised in functional, integrative and aesthetics medicine back in 2004.

“Of course for others that like to do a bit more work and come to see me, I would assess their overall physical health, emotional and mental motivation first. Aesthetics is not about plumped-up lips or frozen faces, with stretched-out skin and nary a line or wrinkle, but rather a personal sense of style and standards that a true aesthetician must have a knack for unearthing from his clients. At the end of the day, it’s not merely about looking good, but also feeling good, as it affects a person’s psychology, psyche and confidence levels, and you should not have to answer to anyone nor justify having procedures done to make you feel good; and I strongly support and defend that as a right,” adds the chief medical director and founder of Nara Clinic.

A specialist in anti-ageing, Nadzri also shares some ways to combat the signs of ageing. “Chronological ageing is an inevitable part of life, which we can’t deny nor fully put a stop to, but we can choose whether or not we age gracefully. It’s essentially advice that most already know, but just don’t put into practice. One is exercising, which also releases a number of hormones, cytokines and beneficial neuro-chemicals that keep our muscles, bones and mind healthy. Having a good diet helps too, especially when it comes to preventing ‘inflammageing’.

The doctor explains that inflammageing is defined as an age-related increase in the levels of pro-inflammatory markers in blood and tissues—a strong risk factor for multiple diseases that are highly prevalent and frequent causes of disability in elderly. “And it’s preventable! Mainly by avoiding highly processed sugars,” he adds. One should also avoid harmful UV rays, get proper sleep, as well as cut down one’s coffee and alcohol intake.

Sadly, the environment we’re in these days isn’t conducive for healthy and graceful ageing. From the chemicals found in food, to pollutants in the air that we breathe, on top of stress from work, there are a lot of factors that ages you.

With a growing list of clientele, including some of KL’s elites, Nadzri takes them all his stride, whirling from one client to another with his personal flair, dishing out customised weight loss programmes, non-invasive face lifts using the Emface machine, or the perennial lasers and injectables, but one thing’s for sure, they generally leave happy after.

“I think awareness plays an important role, and I’m glad that, for the most part, people are conscious that maintaining their physical well-being aids in having an increased life span and a healthy, productive life. Remember, ageing begins at the cellular level. Keeping the cells healthy results in having the whole body glowing with radiance. Aesthetics would come in as the icing on the cake; it’s just the last 20 per cent, we first need to do 80 per cent of the work internally,” he shares on why people trust him and Nara Clinic.
