We ask the managing director of local skincare brand MTM Labo to spill her best kept secrets in terms of all things skincare and beauty ahead of the festive period

Kelly Keak knows how to throw a party—be it a fundraiser or a lavish surprise birthday celebration for her family. The beauty entrepreneur understands the definition of a real fête and as the festive season approaches, she is ready to pull out all the stops once again to celebrate—especially after she welcomed her second child this June.

The beauty enthusiast and managing director of MTM Labo is not one to shy away from detailed skincare steps to ensure she looks her best pre‑ and post‑party. “There are many reasons to love holiday parties, but the after-effects on your skin leave a lot to be desired,” says Keak. “The late-night revelry, sweet treats and consumption of alcohol at parties can result in dark eye circles as well as dull and dehydrated skin.”

In an era where beauty resources are but a click or a tap away, it is easy enough to discover ways to take care of your skin. But perhaps it is even better to get tips from Keak herself, who has been steadfast in building on MTM Labo’s concept of custom-blended formulations since her parents brought the Japanese skincare brand to our shores in 2003.

Here, she highlights five ways to help get your skin back on track post-party.

Take it all off

No matter how tired you are, wipe the slate clean once the party is over—because make-up mixed with perspiration, grime and pollutants always spell trouble for the skin (think unsightly blemishes and other undesirables). “While a make‑up remover [does the job], I prefer to do a double cleanse with MTM Labo’s Custom‑Blended Milk Cleanser,” Keak says. Formulated with sweet almond oil, this gentle milk cleanser thoroughly cleanses without stripping skin of its natural oils, leaving it soft and radiant.

Keep to your established skincare routine

Much as you are tempted to skip all other steps post‑cleanse and just fall into bed, don’t. A proper skincare routine goes a long way in helping your skin deal with stressors. In particular, a night‑time routine with products that aid skin recovery, working in tandem with the skin’s natural reparative processes, which are strongest at night, will be especially useful during the festive season. “After cleansing, I pamper my skin with a toner, a serum and a face cream,” Keak shares. “I ensure that the products I use can penetrate [skin] and lock in the nutrients and keep my skin moisturised and hydrated.”

Invest in eye products

The thinner skin around the eyes means that signs of stress show more easily in this area than elsewhere on the face. To rid evidence of spending one too many nights partying (hello, puffy eyes and dreaded dark circles), do as Keak does and apply MTM Labo’s Custom‑Blended Eye Mask, as well as an eye cream that tackles specific woes. Her top tip: “Massage the eye area with MTM Labo’s Platinum Eye Massager.” Specially designed to treat the delicate skin there, the tool helps to reduce puffiness and rejuvenate the look of the area while boosting the absorption of eye creams or essences.

Sleep on it

Overnight face masks are a great way to enhance any night‑time skincare routine. With the right one, you wake up with dewy skin and (almost) forget you attended a party the previous night. Keak recommends MTM Labo’s Custom‑Blended Overnight Re‑Boost Mask, designed to supply vital nutrients to impaired cells, work on pollution‑induced skin damage and strengthen the skin’s natural defences. The mask also helps to boost moisture, restoring the skin to its optimal state.

Go the custom route

An indulgent facial is a must after all that socialising, but opt for a personalised treatment that precisely targets your unique concerns instead of a generic one. Keak’s suggestion? Head to MTM Labo, where “the most suitable custom‑blended skincare essences [are devised] into facial treatments” that stimulate skin cell renewal and work from the inside out to impart a healthy, revitalised look.
