Tatler friends discover the secret to youthful skin: rest, relaxation and La Mer's The Concentrate

One of the biggest factors that accelerates the ageing process is stress. For many of us, including our Tatler friends, stress is unavoidable. Whether they are running their entrepreneurial empires or keeping their home, it can be easy to fall into a non-stop, fast-paced routine that doesn't give them time to properly unwind and relax.

On August 28, Tatler and La Mer invited 16 women to spend the afternoon at Tatler House to learn how to combat stress, and its side-effects on the skin, in their daily lives. A masterclass on self-care, the event began with light drinks and canapés in the luxurious lounge decorated with beautiful white and green floral arrangements.

They were then introduced to The Concentrate, La Mer's potent reparative serum formulated with a super-concentrated form of the beauty brand's signature Miracle Broth to strengthen, soothe and protect the skin, followed by a demonstration on how to massage and relieve all the tension from the face and neck. They were also given the opportunity to ask questions to the skincare expert present on the best ways to incorporate The Concentrate into their day and nighttime skincare routine, alongside La Mer's iconic Crème de la Mer, Treatment Lotion, and more.

True unwinding is also about the mind. Eckhart Tolle, the German author of Oprah-approved self-help book The Power of Now, once said: "In today's rush we all think too much, seek too much, want too much and forget about the joy of just being."

To help our guests let go of any tension and frustration and fully embrace the present moment, we enlisted the help of fitness influencer and yoga and spin instructor Sandra Woo. She led a guided stretch and meditation, during which she spoke in a calming voice about the importance of cultivating mental strength through mindfulness.

"As women, we are natural caretakers and when it becomes too busy, we often forget to take time for ourselves," she says, emphasising the link between a healthy body and mind. Woo also showed the right technique to take deep calming breaths, recommending for the women to use that technique when faced with difficult, stressful situations.

Another vital component to happiness that our guests came to appreciate during their time at this exclusive space in The Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur was the joy of cultivating new friendships. Coming out of the meditation with a greater appreciation for the present, they took the effort to get to know one another better.

In no time, they were swapping stories and skincare routines, sharing their thoughts on La Mer's The Concentrate as well as their favourite beauty products from the brand. The event was enlightening, enriching and thoroughly enjoyable; our guests left with a smile on their faces.
