When it comes to skincare, Dr Aivee Teo has a wealth of expertise. In this article, Tatler asks her what her three major skincare steps are and why she thinks prevention is always better than cure
If her eponymous and sought-after clinic isn’t proof of her expertise in skincare, Dr Aivee Teo’s radiant complexion is. Through the years, the board-certified dermatologist has seen the most challenging skin conditions and managed to make them better.
Times like these, one might ask, what does a doctor do to treat herself? For Dr Teo, it’s a combination of meticulous self-care and evidence-based skincare practices that she incorporates into her daily routine.

Off the bat, Dr Teo asserts that among all the skin procedures available in the market today, consumers must consider those that stimulate collagen production. She adds that while treatments like lasers, microneedling, and radiofrequency are effective, biostimulators and skin boosters stand out as ‘highly transformative’, offering long-lasting and significant improvements in skin quality.
“Biostimulators activate the body’s collagen production, leading to more natural-looking results. Skin boosters provide deep hydration, improve texture, and give the skin a radiant appearance. These treatments deliver both immediate results and long-term benefits, making them excellent investments for healthy, glowing skin,” she tells Tatler.

The dermatologist suggests that, depending on the procedure and individual skin needs, a session every six to eight weeks is ideal for most treatments to maintain results, while more intensive procedures may only require three sessions per year.
Regular consultations with skin experts are essential to tailor the treatment frequency to one’s specific needs. As for risks, Dr Teo notes that common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and bruising. However, when treatments are performed by a qualified expert, the risks are minimal. It’s crucial to follow post-treatment care instructions and ensure that treatments are tailored to your skin type and condition to avoid complications.

There are three skincare steps that Dr Teo follows religiously—cleansing, hydration, and sun protection. “I cannot live without my Aivee Skin products, which are essential to my night skincare routine,” she says.
“I also make it a point to have my monthly laser treatments at the Aivee Clinic and undergo skin tightening treatments at least twice a year to maintain firm and youthful skin,” she adds.
When asked about her biggest skincare rule, the skin expert replies, “Prevention is better than cure.” She explains that caring for your skin early on with a consistent routine is key, focusing on hydration, antioxidants, and sun protection.
Dr Teo advises against overdoing it with harsh products or treatments that can damage your skin barrier. She also emphasises the importance of incorporating healthy lifestyle habits such as staying hydrated, eating well, and getting enough sleep contribute significantly to maintaining glowing skin.
