Renowned master perfumer Olivier Cresp has reunited with Dolce&Gabbana to unveil a fresh interpretation of one of his finest creations
A distinct scent can sometimes bring back memories, stir emotions and reveal more than what words can describe. Olivier Cresp has masterfully displayed a talent for capturing these feelings into his work, as evidenced in the latest iteration of Devotion Eau de Parfum (EDP) with Dolce&Gabbana: Devotion Eau de Parfum Intense (EDPI). Born and raised in the perfume capital Grasse, Cresp has maintained an enduring partnership with the Maison since 2001, beginning with the launch of Light Blue. “It is an honour and a privilege to work with one of the most important brands in the world of fashion and lifestyle,” Cresp remarks.

“When I create a fragrance,” Cresp explains, “I focus on two aspects: the absolute quality of the raw materials and the pursuit of timelessness.” With new perfume launches being made daily, it is challenging to carve out a niche to capture the public’s imagination. However, armed with experience and access to a refined palette of ingredients, Cresp strives to create something that will stand the test of time. “The market moves at an unimaginable speed compared to just a few years ago. Therefore, when I create, I aim to make something timeless yet trendy and modern, at the same time not a slave to fashions and trends and can remain relevant even in the future.” Creating something that can shake the world to its core is a daunting task, but Cresp and Dolce&Gabbana share a vision of refined excellence, and it is thanks to this synergy, their creations remain electrifying.
The magical power of a fragrance can bring out something deep within a person’s emotions, memories and soul. “This is the power of perfume,” Cresp declares. “When someone tells me that my fragrance has brought them joy, tranquillity or transported them to an inner universe they thought they had lost or never had, that is when the power of perfume reveals itself in its most sublime form.” The new Devotion EDPI encapsulates this almost ethereal, captivating quality.

With Dolce&Gabbana’s emblematic sacred heart, Devotion EDPI builds on the luxury of its predecessor. “Firstly, it is Dolce&Gabbana’s first true gourmand perfume. Secondly, it features a luminous quality that somehow elevates the fragrance,” Cresp explains. The original Devotion EDP was inspired by an evening at the Martini Bar in Milan, where Cresp was delighted by the sweet fruitiness of a panettone. EDPI promises a heightened, enveloping experience with the reinvention of the original perfume by replacing the candied citrus with hazelnut, giving it a warmer, stirring feeling while maintaining the gourmand concept. “Devotion EDPI does not aim to overturn the concept of Devotion EDP but rather to continue the saga, strengthen it, invigorate it and push it further, without distorting the beautiful story of that dinner with Dolce&Gabbana and the famous panettone, a symbol of Italian heritage worldwide.”
True to its namesake, Devotion is a labour of love channelling the qualities of loyalty, affection and dedication. “From the sourcing of raw materials to the meticulous crafting process, every step reflects a strong commitment to excellence and authenticity,” Cresp states. The main ingredients—hazelnut, orange blossom and vanilla—are all uniquely powerful and have assertive personalities. “But rather than being polarising, they come together perfectly in a cohesive and harmonious blend, creating a fragrance that is a mix of devotion and wonder.

The crux of Devotion EDPI is its identity as a gourmand fragrance, and it’s the outstanding result of a steadfast collaboration between Cresp and Dolce&Gabbana. “It is not just another gourmand, which can sometimes be overwhelming, sticky, sugary or fruity,” Cresp remarks. The warm essence of hazelnut is the star of the show, but its partners also shine bright. The middle note of orange blossom, “refined, sublime”, adds a touch of “sophistication and femininity”. The base, occupied by Madagascar vanilla, which is “rich, irresistible, addictive, sensual, opulent and deep”, offers a comforting, sensual foundation.
“Combined with the flavour of hazelnut and the allure of orange blossom, it creates a composition that is a tribute to genuine gratitude, sincere generosity and unconditional love,” Cresp enthused.
Olivier Cresp’s talent as a master perfumer has once again come to the fore with Devotion EDPI, a bold, elegant, and innovative reimagining of one of his finest creations. Together with Dolce & Gabbana, he has concocted a perfume that will tantalise and tempt the senses. It is timeless, enchanting, and unforgettable, vividly bringing to life images of a warm summer day in Italy.
