What is your skin type?

I have combination skin but leaning towards the dry side. I was also born with very sensitive skin—I have eczema and vitiligo so I have to be careful with what products I use on my skin.

What influenced your skincare routine?

A lot of experimenting! When I was younger, I used to love reading articles and watching vlogs about skincare products. I enjoy watching James Welsh and Cassandra Bankson’s videos. I would also try out the products that my mom would use. Eventually, I found my favourites and I’ve pretty much been using the same products for years now.

Can you share a beauty horror story with us?

There was a time that I forgot to reapply sunscreen at the beach, and I had these giant shades positioned on my forehead. When I got home, I realized that I had this weird sunburn on my forehead! I also need to be super diligent with placing sunscreen on my vitiligo spots since they’re on my neck. They’re extra sensitive to the sun and I experienced second-degree burns in the past.

How did you find a skincare routine that works for you? What was your trial and error process?

I’ve always been very interested in skincare routines, so whenever I see something trending or a certain product is highly recommended by friends then I would try it out. I just make sure to read a ton of reviews to make sure that it would be ok for my skin. I even tried those really lengthy 12-step routines, but I realized that I’m too lazy to sustain a high-maintenance routine haha! When I eventually found a combination of products that work well together, I stuck with it.

Can you take us through each step in your routine?

I remove my makeup using coconut oil. I just massage it all over my face, wait a little bit for the oil to break down my makeup then gently wipe my face with cotton.

I wash my face with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser or Shiseido Senka Perfect Whip Collagen. I alternate these two products.

Next up is toner. I use Thayer’s Witch Hazel for this step and I apply using a cotton ball.

I then apply The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2 per cent Emulsion by gently patting it all over my face.

For my under eyes and overall moisturizer, I use AHC’s Eye Cream for Face. I also love using Cetaphil Rich Night Cream for Sensitive Skin as an alternate.

When I want some extra pampering that day, I also use an AHC sheet mask.

How often do you use face masks and what does it do for your skin?

I love using AHC face masks! I’ve tried out every single variant, my faves are the Natural Essential Aqua Masks. My skin always looks so healthy and hydrated afterwards, especially when I massage my face with a cold jade roller while the mask is on. I use them at least once or twice a week, and I also love applying face masks before doing my makeup for events.

Personally, which products do you consider the holy grail of beauty products?

AHC Eye Cream for Face because it simplifies my routine, my skin loves it and it’s very easy to bring around when I’m out and about.

The Ordinary 2 per cent Retinoid for anti-ageing.

Anessa Sunscreen! Sunscreen is the most crucial part of my daily skincare routine—I use it even when I’m just at home.

How often do you practise skin fasting (a break from skincare)?

I don’t actively practice skin fasting but there are some days when I’m too tired to do skincare! But since I have a simple routine, it’s quite easy to sustain on a daily basis and my skin hasn’t had any problems with that.

Are there any skincare rules you’ve broken that have done wonders to your skin?

I don’t really wash my face twice a day. In the morning, I just use a soft washcloth and run it under cold water and place that on my face. I only use cleansing products at night.

I also don’t exfoliate my face at home—but I make sure to visit Facial Care Center monthly for deeper cleansing.

Lastly, can you share a skincare hack everyone should know?

When your face is feeling puffy when you wake up, apply a face mask and use a cold jade roller over it to massage your face! It feels super nice, calms your skin and makes it glow.

Always, always wear sunscreen during the day even if you aren’t heading out. We always need that protection for our skin.
