With CEO Alexander Grenz at the helm, Allianz PNB Life prospers in more ways than one to ensure a better future for all

“We want our customers to have full confidence in tomorrow,” said Allianz PNB Life CEO Alexander Grenz. With a history that stretches back to 1896, Allianz is a name that heralds distinguished success in insurance and financial services worldwide. Grenz stated, “The clear first point was to give Filipinos access to these excellent solutions.”

Now among the major life insurers in the Philippines and the fastest-growing life insurance company in 2020 and 2021, Allianz PNB Life has been a game-changing player since it began its operations in 2016. This undoubtedly is largely thanks to Grenz, who, having been the COO until 2019, saw an evident path to continued achievement through a realignment of brand strategies and company culture, as well as a strengthened commitment to the advocacies at the heart of Allianz PNB Life.

A Company Revamped

“We have a tremendously strong banking partner, Philippine National Bank, which has a wide branch network. We have another partnership with HSBC, and we still can build our own channel. The growth opportunity was clearly there,” Grenz shared. As Allianz PNB Life was already in the progress of implementing a hybrid working model ahead of the pandemic, Grenz identified the need to double down on digitising and modernising their office and service model to inspire a culture of outperformance. His three strategic pillars to Outperform, Transform, and Rebalance were crucial in increasing their scale and ultimately paving the way for the company’s swift and steady success.

Grenz said, “From merely looking at our needs and working towards them, we changed the [team’s] aspiration to deliver more, to look at how we can stretch ourselves and deliver the best possible results.” Through his close rapport with the team and his active hand in every aspect of the organisation, Grenz truly leads by example, noting the importance of transparency, communication, and recognition at Allianz PNB Life. He said, “In our case, every single member of the team can see everyone’s targets, aspirations, and progress. I think it’s important to identify yourself with the team and the organisation.”

Championing Sustainability and Innovation

The enlivened culture at Allianz PNB Life is best manifested in their continued innovation of services and products as a leading provider of health insurance in the country, especially since the awareness and need for health insurance have significantly increased during the pandemic. The company introduced Allianz eAZy Health, a renewable five-year insurance plan that is convenient and affordable for most Filipinos. Banking on its global network, it also launched Allianz Well!, an international health plan giving customers holistic in-patient protection across the globe with the benefit of up to PhP100 million a year.

Under Grenz’s leadership, Allianz PNB Life continues to bring sustainability to the fore through the company’s campaigns beyond the workplace and notably in its product called Allianz Protect, a comprehensive insurance solution made in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). “We want to offer customers to not only protect themselves but contribute and have a purpose,” added Grenz. “Allianz Protect is our latest innovation, which allows you to support communities as well with your premium. I think it’s finally where we get to look at sustainability as an embedded step in all we do.”

Beyond this, Allianz PNB Life strives to build a more confident future for Filipinos through projects like the award-winning Allianz Ride Safe Program, which has supported the cyclists of San Juan, Manila and Taguig. By providing safe biking spaces and infrastructure around the metro, the campaign aims to promote biking as both a healthier and eco-friendly alternative to driving. Additionally, the company is always looking to extend its health awareness and financial literacy programmes to a wider audience, having previously partnered with SOS Children’s Villages where it lent training and mentorship modules for the youth.
