Forbes has released its annual list of the world’s wealthiest individuals, which includes 17 Malaysians
Forbes has released its latest list of the world’s billionaires, worth a collective US$14.2 trillion (approximately RM67.4 trillion)—up by US$2 trillion in 2023. Head of LVMH Bernard Arnault and his family are at number one, with a net worth of US$233 billion. Founder of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk is No. 2 on the list, with a net worth of US$195 billion, while Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who has a net worth of US$195 billion, comes in at No. 3.

Pop culture icons Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, and Taylor Swift are also on this year’s Forbes richest list, with net worths of US$2.5 billion, US$1.7 billion, and US$1.1 billion respectively. Swift, who’s currently on her record-breaking, five-continent Eras Tour run, is the most famous newcomer on the list.
Notably, there are 141 more billionaires in the world than last year—2,781 in total. Out of those, 17 Malaysians have joined the ranks this year.
A mainstay on the Forbes list for the past couple of years, Tan Sri Robert Kuok is once again the richest man in Malaysia, with a net worth of US$11.4 billion. Kuok, who celebrated his 100th birthday on October 6, 2023, founded and controls the Kuok Group, which has operations across the region, in sectors including hospitality, agriculture, real estate, and freight and logistics.

Hong Leong Group executive chairman Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan comes next, with a net worth of US$8.8 billion, followed by Malaysian telecom and oil tycoon Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan, with a net worth of US$4.9 billion and Press Metal group CEO Tan Sri Koon Poh Keong, with a net worth of US$3.7 billion.
