Tatler Asia's Most Influential honourees Dato' Ambiga Sreenevasan and film director Tunku Mona Reza are among the Malaysian entrants to this year's Forbes 50 over 50 list in Asia, along with APEC’s Tan Sri Datuk Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria

A list featuring 50 inspirational women across the Asia-Pacific region who are accomplishing great things in their 50s, the Forbes’ 50 Over 50 Asia 2024 list was announced on January 17. Three Malaysian women were included in the list—namely Tatler Asia’s Most Influential honourees Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan, prominent Malaysian lawyer and human rights advocate, along with acclaimed film director Tunku Mona Riza.

The third entrant is Tan Sri Datuk Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, a top-level Malaysian civil servant and trade negotiator who made history as the first female executive director to lead the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Secretariat.

Multiple award-winning filmmaker and founder of Current Pictures production house, Tunku Mona Riza, is best recognised for her directorial work in the 2016 film Redha, which was selected as the Malaysian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. Tunku Mona's latest film Raintown, is set to debut in theatres in February 2024, marking a significant milestone as the first Chinese-language film directed by a Malay woman.

In 2023, Dato' Ambiga Sreenevasan was awarded the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Medal of Honour and the Gandhi Memorial Trust Public Service Award, among four other female jurists who were honoured for their legal work and for breaking the glass ceiling in their careers. The former Malaysia Bar Council president is a founding member of the Women's Aid Organisation and is the current president of the Pure Life Society, a charitable home for orphans and the underprivileged.  

The three Malaysian ladies were honoured alongside other big names like Filipino actress and 2023 Asia's Most Influential honouree Dolly de Leon and Australian singer-songwriter Kylie Minogue on Forbes’ fourth annual 50 Over 50 Asia list.
