With markets gradually opening up as the country eases its COVID-19 restrictions, the Philippine economy bounces back on different fronts. Forbes has just released its global list of billionaires, amounting to a total of 2,668 richest individuals contributing USD 12.7 trillion cumulatively to the world's wealth. Considering the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and its effects on the global economy, there were 34 fewer billionaires than last year and USD 400 billion less than in 2021's data.

In the Philippines,17 made it to the global list in April and 22 billionaires were listed in September last year among the country's richest. This 2022, Asia's Most Influential 2021 lister Manuel Villar Jnr jumped to 263rd ranking in the global list with a net worth of USD 8.3 billion. This real estate tycoon recently had his media venture, Advanced Media Broadcasting Systems, take over ABS-CBN's broadcast frequencies thus further expanding his source of wealth.
Following Villar in the list are Enrique Razon Jnr and Henry Sy Jnr, who have also increased their net worth over the course of the year, landing on 369th and 1096th spots on the global list, respectively. Meanwhile, Andrew Tan plunged into the 1096th spot after having a decrease in his net worth of USD 3 billion last year.
