Affectionately called “Bigboy” by his family, friends, and colleagues, the eldest son of the late Henry Sy Snr, Henry Sy Jnr, continues the legacy of his parents with his older sibling Tessie. Together, they share the vice chairmanship of the SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) also known as SM Group, which is now being helmed by Jose T Sio, their father’s successor and trusted “lieutenant”.

Even before the passing of his father, Henry Jnr had been taking the reins of some of the major components of SM Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the country. In 1994, he became the director of SM Prime Holdings and its chairman of the board in 2014. It is the group’s property arm that ventures into the construction of malls, residences, offices, hotels, and convention centres. Through his efforts, the SM Development Corporation was revived and is now one of the leading residential real-estate developers in the Philippines. When he founded the Big Boss Cement business in 2017, the timing was greatly beneficial for the company as the current Duterte administration pushed forth its infrastructure projects nationwide. Big Boss Cement is known for making cement out of volcanic debris at its plant in Porac, Pampanga.

Consistently, the SM Group receives honours and accolades for its active efforts in sustainability causes, gender equality and inclusivity in the work environment, and many more. It is also listed by Forbes as one of the highly regarded companies in the world in terms of trustworthiness and performance.
