As the only son of the late John Gokongwei Jnr, Lance Gokongwei now holds the reins of his father’s empire, JG Summit

Lance Gokongwei is the heir to an empire founded by one of the Philippines’ original captains of industry, John Gokongwei Jnr. Today, the taipan’s only son is president and CEO of JG Summit, a holding company with interests in food, agriculture, real estate, air transportation, banking, petrochemicals, telecommunications, and power generation. Brands and companies under JG Summit are household names in the Philippines, known nationwide and even elsewhere in Southeast Asia: Jack N’ Jill, Cebu Pacific Air, Robinsons Land, and Robinsons Bank; as well as PLDT and Meralco, in which JG Summit has significant minority positions.

All told, Lance Gokongwei brings to his role over 30 years of experience working in the Gokongwei Group of companies, which he and his siblings now run. In his career, he has been a business leader not just at JG Summit, but at Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc., and at the Summit Media Group.

In recent years, Gokongwei, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with degrees in finance and applied science, has made his presence felt across JG Summit’s many companies, fulfilling the role of a front-facing executive for the digital age.
