First launched at the Tatler Ball 2022 on December 2, 2022, the annual fundraising campaign was kickstarted by The Melium Group, which donated products worth more than RM100,000 from some of the world's leading luxury fashion and leather brands that were placed under the Christmas tree at the Ball and RM10,000 upfront in cash. Guests were able to participate in the initiative by buying any of the items under the tree via payments to Tatler Malaysia’s GiveAsia crowdfunding page.
About the charities
Make-A-Wish Malaysia
Since 2010, Make-A-Wish Malaysia has been bringing life-changing wish experiences to critically ill children in Peninsula and East Malaysia. The organisation works with select hospitals to identify children who would benefit from a wish and provide them with an unforgettable experience that gives them renewed strength and hope. Each wish is carefully crafted to meet the specific needs and interests of the child, and the Make-A-Wish Malaysia team works tirelessly to ensure that every detail is perfect.
OrphanCare Foundation
OrphanCare Foundation is a Malaysian non-profit organisation dedicated to helping children. It was founded in 2009 and since then it has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of children in Malaysia. One of its most important initiatives is the establishment of baby hatches, which help to rescue babies who have been abandoned by their families. To date, OrphanCare has placed over 500 babies in loving homes, and it continues to work hard to reduce the number of children living in institutions. The Foundation is also passionate about preventing child abuse, and it runs several awareness-raising campaigns each year. Thanks to the tireless work of OrphanCare Foundation, hundreds of children in Malaysia are living happier, healthier lives.
Yayasan Chow Kit
Yayasan Chow Kit runs a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre, providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children. There are now two centres providing quality care and services to children ranging from babies to young adults. The centres have had a positive impact on the lives of the children they serve, providing them with a safe place to play and learn, and helping to improve their overall health and well-being. In addition, the centres have helped to reduce crime in the area by giving at-risk children a constructive outlet for their energy and frustration.
