The promising figures of the Gen.T community are living up to their potential, now helming impactful companies in the region

The Gen.T Leaders of Tomorrow have become the CEOs and changemakers of Asia’s Most Influential. Driven by ambition, resilience and adaptability, the young leaders in Tatler’s community have fulfilled their potential, driving progress not only in their respective industries but also in social and environmental issues such as women empowerment, sustainability and mental health.

Their entrepreneurial spirit lives on, powering innovation in companies that are leaders in their markets and beyond. In Taiwan, Harris Cheng innovates sustainable personal care with Greenvines; In Thailand, Pichaya Soontornyanakij champions Asian cuisine, becoming one of the best chefs in the region; and in Hong Kong, Dee Poon nurtures sustainable fashion and green tech with Tessellation Group. Together, they represent the leaders of Tatler’s community, all of whom are committed to creating positive change for the future and today.

“When my father started, we were simply building homes. Today, we are building entire cities and communities. But also, we’re promoting new industries and igniting existing ones,” Kevin Tan, CEO and president of Alliance Global Group, Inc (AGI), said to Tatler. “I think this is the longer-term perspective, as a company. How do you create jobs? How do you promote new industries, create innovation, improve lives?” Tan, a Gen.T honouree in 2018, 2017 and 2016 who has been on Asia’s Most Influential every year since 2021, now leads the Asian conglomerate with interests in real estate, tourism, gaming, spirits and quick-service restaurants. AGI is home to Megaworld, one of the largest real estate developers in the country, Golden Arches, which runs McDonald’s in the Philippines, and Emperador Inc, the world’s largest brandy manufacturer.

Bryan Loo has built a beverage empire that includes Bask Bear coffee, sparkling water maker Sodaxpress, kombucha brand Wonderbrew and bubble tea giant Tealive. To celebrate International Bubble Tea Day in April 2024, Tealive lit up the 48-storey TSLaw Tower with a giant bubble tea cup, as well as introduced the Bruniverse and the brand’s new tagline, “Brewing Positivity”. Of its new direction, Loo said, “We’re a testimony that Malaysians can create world-class products. We hope we’re inspiring Malaysians to have positive outlooks, emotions, and experiences.” The serial entrepreneur now shares his point of view in over Tealive 1,000 locations in Asia and beyond, with stores also in the UK, Canada, Australia and Mauritius.

Interestingly, Loo is one of very few individuals who have appeared on all three Tatler lists: Gen.T (2017); Asia’s Most Influential (2021, 2022, 2023); and Asia’s Most Stylish (2023).

In March, Pichaya Soontornyanakij, also known as Chef Pam, was awarded Asia’s Best Female Chef for 2024. “May this accolade inspire young female chefs to break barriers and ignite grand culinary dreams. I believe that with passion and dedication, anyone can carve their path to success,” said the chef of Potong of the accolade. At her Michelin-starred restaurant, the multi-awarded chef presents her five-element philosophy of salt, acid, spice, texture and the Maillard reaction in Thai-Chinese dishes such as roasted duck brain or a remake of street desserts. Beyond Potong, chef Pam exhibits her expertise with the late-night haunt Opium Bar, American restaurant The Table and Texas barbecue eatery Smoked. To nurture the next generation of leaders, she supports aspiring female chefs with her Women for Women Scholarship programme.

The culinary prodigy first caught the attention of Gen.T in 2018, and she has since been named to the Asia’s Most Influential list in 2023.
