Young tycoon Kevin Tan is the head honcho in the business empire founded by his father and is taking it into new heights

Businessman and investor Kevin Tan is the CEO and Vice-Chairman of Alliance Global, Inc, a holding company that includes real estate through Megaworld Corporation, fast food through Golden Arches Development Corporation, hospitality and property management through Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc, and liquor through Emperador Inc. The young businessman took over the family business in 2018. His father, Dr Andrew Tan, founded the company in 1993. Now, Tan is at the helm of Emperador, the world’s largest brandy producer, giving his father the space he needs to pursue his passion for mixing and blending liquor in his retirement.

Only in his early forties, Tan has lofty ambitions. Tan had previously targeted the company to become carbon neutral by 2030, a goal that was pushed back to 2035 by the pandemic, alongside creating 5 million jobs for Filipinos through Megaworld’s townships around
the nation.

As the president of Megaworld Real Estate Investment Trust (MREIT), he is at the helm of the Philippines’ largest REIT with a little over PhP27billion in initial public offering. He also co-founded Pick-A-Roo, a consumer delivery app that responds to the demands of the New Normal across the city.

Emperador uses organic biogas to fuel the boilers in its distilling plants. These boilers produce steam that power turbines, creating electricity that reduces their carbon footprint. Their operations in Spain also invested in deficit irrigation, which benefits locations that have low water supply. This move into sustainability is a direct response, according to Tan, to the devastating climate disasters that the Philippines experiences on a yearly basis.
