The Press Start Studios founder explains how cruising around Hong Kong in his first Mercedes-Benz has inspired him to create edutainment games and experiences
What qualities do you look for when buying a car? Vincent Siu, the founder and lead producer of Press Start Studios, believes that a high-performance vehicle should have a reliable braking and steering system to ensure smooth, precise and solid control during pauses and turns.
Knowing its favourable reputation, Siu purchased his first Mercedes-Benz E200, a car he planned to share with his family. “For a family car, the size is just right. It’s also comfortable and doesn’t consume too much fuel,” he recalls, adding that he didn’t take long to decide on the purchase.
As a busy entrepreneur, Siu typically drives his E200 when he needs to travel long distances or visit multiple locations in one day. These driving experiences through the streets of Hong Kong, a city known for its dense skyline and intricate roadways, have fuelled his creative juices as he built his first venture, Press Start Academy, and its sister brand, Press Start Studios.
Holding firm to his belief that education is most effective when it is enjoyable, his company focuses on creating programmes that gamify learning experiences for students and adults by using a variety of toys such as board games, cards and Lego.

Driving on Bowen Road, a narrow and winding road on the slope of Central in Hong Kong Island, reminds him to keep the players of his games entertained, even within a short timeframe. “I love Hong Kong because of its diverse terrains and the interconnected roads that make it so easy to travel around the compact city. For instance, you can go from Happy Valley to Repulse Bay in just 10 minutes. The journey takes you from wide urban roads to narrow ones, with twisty roads on the slopes and finally leads to the beach. It’s incredible how the city offers such varied experiences in such a short time,” he explains.
He also destresses by driving through the metropolis’ different terrains and enjoys finding his way around without using a navigation map. He likens the experience to playing one of his favourite childhood video games, SimCity, an open-ended city-building game. “Driving is about the thrill of discovery and the joy of the journey more than the destination,” says Siu.

Siu hopes to get one of the German marque’s electric models next. When he got the opportunity to test drive the latest Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, the experience left Siu intrigued. “I didn’t feel any difference between driving the EQE SUV and my E200—and that’s about the highest compliment I can give it,” he said. Siu also liked that the EQE SUV’s touchscreen display was minimalistic and intuitive.
