Cover To commemorate SG60, Dick Lee's ‘SingaPop! 60 Years of Singapore Pop Culture’ exhibition opens on August 2 to December 28 at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands

Our August 2025 issue honours the vanguards behind Singapore’s evolution and SG60, and the visionaries shaping the nation’s next era—from Paralympian Yip Pin Xiu, AI leader Ayesha Khanna and architect Angelene Chan; to Eu Yan Sang’s Richard Eu, and the young chefs taking local cuisine to new heights

If someone had told eight-year-old me—the girl singing with Mr Merli on a floating stage at the National Day Parade—that she’d one day be writing the editor’s note for Tatler Singapore’s commemorative SG60 edition, she wouldn’t have believed it. Fast forward to 2025, standing on the cusp of our nation’s 60th year of independence, the Tatler team has so much to say and celebrate, because our pride is both deeply personal and profoundly patriotic.

Our August issue isn’t just dedicated to this milestone, but to the momentum that continues to fuel our growth.

We turn our attention to the vanguards who have shaped the Singapore story through an interplay of boundless ambition, intellect and conviction, all while cultivating a culture and identity that is as refined as it is resilient; and the visionaries who, like our flourishing city-state, fearlessly yet pragmatically chart new frontiers, collectively accelerating our ascent as one of the world’s most influential nations.

In The Pedal on Passion, presented in collaboration with BMW and in commemoration of SG60, we honour the spirit of legacy and reinvention through pathfinders Richard Eu of Eu Yan Sang, Mervin Wee of Jean Yip Group, and Juliana Chan of Wildtype Media Group. Their stories remind us that progress isn’t just about motion, but meaning—that the past and future ride side by side when vision is driven by purpose.

Singapore’s transformation into a City in Nature finds extraordinary expression in Where the Wild Things Are, a deep dive into the Mandai’s decade-long metamorphosis into an nature-based eco-tourism sanctuary. With five wildlife parks, a resort and a public boardwalk, and the regional impact of Mandai Nature, the conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group, it’s a model of how public access and preservation can co-exist meaningfully.

We also spotlight two global disruptors shaking up the creator economy: The Diary of a CEO host and entrepreneur Steven Bartlett—on our second cover—whose podcast tour lands in Singapore this September, and Labubu’s enigmatic creator Kasing Lung, whose fantastical universe has made waves from Beijing to Belgium. As Singapore’s own content and culture creators scale international heights, our nation is increasingly becoming a node in the global creator network—a place not just of consumption, but powerful creativity.

Equally impactful are the voices shaping our ever-evolving identity through art and food. Dick Lee curates SingaPop!, a six-decade celebration of Singaporean pop culture for SG60, while the fresh cast of Emerald Hill bridges nostalgia with contemporary storytelling. Meanwhile, in Mod-Sin Rising, the next generation of chefs turns our culinary heritage into bold new statements—daring, distinctly ours, and undeniably sumptuous.

As we fete Singapore’s diamond jubilee, the great SG60, what moves us most is not just how far we’ve come—but how we lead each other forward. From every quiet act of courage to each grand vision realised, the Singapore story is still being written—by all of us.

So here’s to the next 60.
