Minh Nguyen, Allianz: “Women should be as flexible as water”

Allianz Partners operates in 75 countries, offering a broad portfolio of insurance services and standing as one of the world’s leading insurance groups. Headquartered in Dublin, with offices in London, Munich, and other major European cities, it is a global force. Minh Nguyen, as Country Lead, is proud to be the youngest female CEO in the region. Looking back, she recalls how senior leadership roles were often associated with being “male, white, and foreign.” But times have changed. Today, Minh Nguyen finds reassurance in the progress made, knowing her two daughters are growing up in a more diverse world with greater opportunities.

Hello Minh Nguyen, it’s a pleasure to speak with you. With such an admirable career, what has motivated you to overcome challenges in your professional journey?

Growing up in Vietnam, a lower-income country with a predominantly public healthcare system, I witnessed many challenges—both in capacity and funding—in delivering medical services. Additionally, the rise of non-communicable diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyles is placing an increasing strain on the system. This fuelled my passion to contribute to the healthcare sector in Vietnam.

My motivation is also deeply personal. I have faced my own health challenges, including the tragedy of giving birth to my first daughter. That experience reinforced my determination to make a meaningful impact in this field. Over the past 22 years, I have lived and worked in Vietnam, focusing primarily on the insurance and healthcare industries.

You are also Vice President of the German Business Association (GBA). How do you balance your leadership role in a global corporation while staying true to your personal values?

My journey has not always been easy. I have faced significant pressures in my career while striving to maintain balance, ensuring that I stay true to the principles I cherish—such as diversity and inclusion in the workplace, business innovation, and the empowerment of younger generations.

My life philosophy is rooted in the Japanese concept of Ikigai, which emphasises living with purpose and finding harmony between professional success and self-care. I encourage people to pursue their dreams, work hard, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. One piece of advice I often share is: “Compete with the best version of yourself,” always striving for personal growth.
