Cover Remedies to try after partying all night at the Tatler Ball 2024

After a night of celebration, here are some of the best ways to rejuvenate and aid recovery

We’ve all been there—waking up feeling lethargic, tired, and a little off after partying all night, especially if it was at Tatler Singapore’s 42nd birthday bash that took place last night. From catching up with longtime friends to dancing in your chicest ball gown and sky-high heels, you’ll definitely feel like you’ve worn out your body physically the morning after.

Fortunately, this feeling can be easily reversed with some recovery remedies. While our bodies can detox on their own, there are certainly ways to help with the process. Whether you’re feeling dehydrated or sore, here are some of our tips that are worth trying to help you feel refreshed again. (And we will see you on the dance floor again very soon.)

Don’t miss: How much do you know about the Tatler Ball?

1. Indulge in a hearty hangover meal

Waking up with a hangover is never fun. Fortunately, there are some foods that can help alleviate these nasty symptoms. While we may crave junk food such as fries and greasy bacon, these foods might make your symptoms worse. Instead, opt for something warm and soupy, like a hearty bowl of fish soup or peppery bak kut teh.

If you believe in Korean remedies, go for haejang-guk instead. Translated to mean “soup to chase a hangover”, this spicy bowl comprises vegetables and meat in a rich beef broth.

2. Hair of the dog

If everything else fails, keep drinking, right? As counterintuitive as it might sound, it’s a common remedy to drink more alcohol to reduce hangover symptoms. While there are many hangover-remedy cocktails to choose from, one of the most popular is a Bloody Mary, and you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen already—all you need is tomato juice, horseradish, Tobasco, and Worcestershire sauce.

3. Boost your energy with vitamins

While you should be taking vitamins everyday, it’s especially important to do so after a night out. A study by the National Library of Medicine shares how certain hangover symptoms can be due to nutrient deficiencies—vitamin B12 in particular. Take supplements that will help replenish your B vitamins, or fuel up on foods like eggs and lean protein that can help to do so.

4. Try traditional Korean remedies

With Koreans taking their drinking sessions very seriously, it’s no surprise that they have also created multiple remedies to help reduce a hangover—one of them being Hanjan jelly. These jelly packets combine traditional Eastern herbal remedies and Western science, creating Oriental Raisin, a herb that boosts liver enzymes while breaking down alcohol-induced toxins. Each packet also features Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin C, helping to improve energy. What’s more, the jelly comes in single-serving sachets, making it convenient to bring around.

5. Sweat it off

A popular hangover remedy, going for a quick workout can help improve oxygen flow to the brain while increasing mood-boosting hormones. Of course, we’re not telling you to sign up for a HIIT class with a throbbing head. Instead, opt for low to moderate exercises such as going for a walk around the neighbourhood.

6. Don’t skip the most important meal of the day

Having breakfast after a big night can help to replenish the energy and nutrients in your body. According to a study by Bio Med Central. “having breakfast can help the human body start daily metabolism”.

Opt for a breakfast rich in nutrients, such as oats, vegetables and eggs, rather than one full of fried and processed foods. Still full from the lavish Tatler Ball feast, especially our signature Teo Chew Muay supper? Go for light yet nutritious dishes such as soup and salad.

If you’re looking for a healthy yet satisfying breakfast, Park Bench Deli does a mean chicken toastie, packed with juicy poached chicken, herb mayo, avocado, arugula salad and lemon vinaigrette.

7. Hydrate like your life depends on it

You’ll be forgiven if you drank a bit too much Hennesy Paradis cognac and Johnnie Walker Blue Label at the pre-dinner party, and Cloudy Bay pours (the legends of the New World wines) at the meal proper. After all, it’s been two years since we last held our last Tatler Ball and it’s a great feeling to be able to catch up with friends in society’s biggest night.

Don’t be surprised if you wake up the next day with a migraine or headache, especially if you forgot to drink water during the ball itself. A study by the National Library of Medicine states that as alcohol is a diuretic, it strips the body of key electrolytes, resulting in feeling dehydrated and hungover the next day.

The best way to combat this is by keeping your body hydrated throughout the day (and no, we do not mean with even more alcohol). Excess alcohol dehydrates the body, so taking in extra fluids during and after the ball will help rehydrate the body. Take sips of water throughout the day to help regulate your body temperature, aid digestion.

8. Treat your feet

The phrase ‘beauty is pain’ is relatable especially after wearing your heels all night, not to mention walking up the staircase with 42 steps (yes, we counted). If your feet are still sore from the evening’s festivities, detox with a tension releasing foot massage.

Why not book a foot reflexology session at Han Dynasty? Its certified therapists are trained to target specific areas that help alleviate various pains—including sore feet and muscles.

9. Hide out in the spa

Your body must be tired after a long night of socialising, eating and dancing. Take it easy the following day with a relaxing spa session. At Raffles Spa, rejuvenate your body with the Gem Suite experience. The session begins with a relaxing massage of your choice—go for the Basalt Hot Stone Massage, a 90-minute session that helps smooth muscle tension and encourage blood circulation. Then, head to the hydrothermal facility and enjoy Raffles Spa’s hydrotherapy wellness experiences, including an herbal sauna room, vitality pool, and ice fountain.

10. Sleep it off

Beauty sleep is important, and definitely what we need after the ball. Ensure you get sufficient amount of sleep for you to be energised before Monday comes around.

There are a couple of factors to bear in mind when creating the ideal sleeping condition, from dressing comfortably to using essential oils to help you relax. Light a candle or use a diffuser to help you wind down—try Hush’s Calming Essential Oil Room Spray, a blend filled with floral and citrus aromas of lavender and bergamot.
