In February 2022, it was announced that Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands (MBS) would be undergoing a billion-dollar transformation programme for its existing property, from hotel rooms and suites to new food and beverage (F&B) offerings. This was the largest initiative since the integrated resort’s opening in 2010.
The reinvestment saw extensive upgrading of all rooms and suites in Towers 1 and 2 of the hotel, with renovation works done in phases over the past two years.
Once the transformation of all three hotel towers is completed, there will be a total of 1,850 luxuriously refurbished rooms, including nearly 770 suites.
Today, the first phase of transformation saw the extensive upgrading of 1,280 rooms across Towers 1 and 2, of which about 390 are new suites.
These rooms are now housed under two main categories: The Paiza Collection and The Sands Collection. Each collection offers unique room types, such as the ultra-luxe Paiza Horizon Suite, which features spa and wellness-inspired concepts including a hammam shower and Himalayan salt wall room, and the Sands Family Suite, which has its own kitchenette as well as a children’s room with bunk beds, a bookshelf of storybooks and exclusively curated Adventure Packs.
The Paiza Collection can be regarded as the creme de la creme of the hotel’s rooms. These ultra-luxurious residential-style suites are located on the top floors of the hotel, reserved for MBS’s most distinguished guests.
Last month, Tatler Singapore was given the exclusive opportunity to experience a two-night stay in the Paiza Premier Suite. The good news? This suite is now available for the public to book and stay. Here are all the details from our staycation below.

A stay at one of these suites is an extraordinary experience for guests that begins right at their doorstep with a limousine transfer. A chauffeur will pick up guests from their homes or the airport in a luxury vehicle; in our case, we were greeted by a sleek matte grey custom-made Rolls Royce Cullinan. Inside the vehicle were bottles of snacks, wet towels and even mints that came in MBS-branded tins.
We pulled up at a private VIP arrival reserved for Paiza guests and were welcomed by hotel staff who immediately presented my family and me with wet towels to freshen up. Coffee and tea are available at this spacious reception area but we skipped that to head straight to our suite to do an in-suite check-in. Paiza guests have access to dedicated elevators from this hush, private lobby area that will take them straight to their suites.

We stayed in the lavish Paiza Premier Suite, which comes with luxurious perks including 24-hour butler service and exclusive access to the Paiza Sky Residence; this applies to all suites under The Paiza Collection.
What’s special about this one-bedroom corner suite is that it offers two different expansive views: the main bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling windows look out towards Gardens By The Bay while the living area overlooks the Marina Bay waterfront promenade. Not only did we get to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city, but we also witnessed the nightly light shows (Borealis, a new immersive light and sound installation at Gardens by the Bay’s Supertree Grove, and Spectra - A Light & Water Show by MBS) from the comfort of our suite.
The suite measures about 110 sqm in size and can sleep up to three adults. Some of the key features of the suite include a large walk-in wardrobe with a dressing table (that even has its very own sink—ladies, we all know how important this is for our make-up and skincare routines, right?) and a marble bathroom with amenities by Bulgari and a tub that has underwater jets.
For someone who has trouble sleeping, I enjoyed a rather peaceful night of sleep here for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the soft 600-thread count bed linen by the Italian brand Frette ensured that I was enveloped in luxurious comfort all night long. The quality of the linens truly enhanced relaxation, leaving me feeling rejuvenated the next morning.
What also elevated my pre-slumber experience were the signature teas and night fridge decked with premium mineral water. More than just hydrating myself, drinking a warm cup of floral tea and high-quality water before bed helped soothe the senses and prepared me for bed. And yes, the hotel has a water connoisseur who curated a range of bottled mineral water, both still and sparkling, for a wide range of health benefits. Our room was stocked with six different brands, including Hildon, which is said to be a preferred choice for the British royal family. We enjoyed the mineral waters so much that we took the liberty of asking our butler to refill the fridge with some of our favourites throughout our stay.

The Paiza Sky Residence is an exclusive lounge located on the 55th floor of Tower 2. This multi-concept executive club lounge features a tea vault, bespoke whisky bar, private liquor locker, garden conservatory and buffet spreads served from open kitchens helmed by top chefs.
Its breakfast hours are said to be the longest duration for a hotel in Singapore, as the club even serves brunch starting from 11 am to 1.30 pm. This thoughtful initiative allows guests to sleep in and spend more time in their suites so that they can have a leisurely first meal of their day.
Besides breakfast and brunch, guests can enjoy afternoon tea, evening drinks and canapés as well as late-night tipples at Paiza Sky Residence. Complimentary breakfast is also available at Spago Bar & Lounge, Rise Restaurant or The Club at Renku.
While my parents enjoyed a tiered afternoon tea set on our first day, I opted for coffee and pastries at the new Bacha Coffee boutique in The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Love your buffet spreads? Head on over to Rise Restaurant for dinner too, just like we did. The international buffet restaurant offers a sumptuous spread for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The seafood station here draws the biggest crowd as it offers a wide variety of choices including lobster, scallops, mussels, prawns and clams. Don’t miss the pasta station because the carbonara is a must-try dish; each plate is freshly prepared in a giant cheese wheel for guests.
Aside from restaurants within the hotel, we also enjoyed lunch at the new Maison Boulud Singapore by award-winning chef Daniel Boulud at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (South Promenade). The lunch set menu features simple yet creative interpretations of classic French dishes. You can choose between the two-course or three-course set, which comes with dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the plate of warm madeleines that were served at the end of our meal—each pastry was so light and fluffy and made for a sweet end to the meal.

We also had dinner at Cut by Wolfgang Puck, the classic steak restaurant by celebrated chef Wolfgang Puck that launched in 2010 and has garnered fans all over Asia. Here, my husband and I enjoyed a plate of sirloin and rib-eye steak each, served with a side of fries. We’ve been to the restaurant a number of times over the years and have always enjoyed the perfectly grilled steaks served amid an elegant ambience and impeccable service. Dining here is always an experience to savour and is worth visiting if you are someone who appreciates culinary excellence.

There were so many unforgettable memories made during our staycation that it was almost impossible to select a favourite moment. However, I must say that the Paiza Sky Residence was indeed a highlight of the stay.
An exclusive retreat on the 55th floor of Tower 2 of MBS, this lounge is reserved only for guests of the Sands Signature Suites and the Paiza Collection. Here, guests can indulge in Asian delights such as laksa, dim sum, nonya kueh and a continental brunch buffet. My family and I spent a large chunk of our mornings at the Residence enjoying the spread of food and drinks available, and generous service by the staff.
This beautiful space offers stunning views of Singapore’s city skyline and the South China Sea, with thoughtful design aspects such as oriental textures, art, and nature-inspired elements that add to a serene oasis.
It is divided into four themed areas: The Conservatory provides serene, floor-to-window views of lush gardens and the sea; The Library is a perfect hideout that also offers a private meeting space; the Tea Lounge is where guests can enjoy afternoon tea sets and evening cocktails, and it is centred around a Tea Vault housing a vast collection of oriental teas; and The Whisky Bar is a secluded lounge at the Residence’s far end, featuring rare whisky collections and some of the best wines and spirits in the market. On some afternoons and evenings, there is also live entertainment for guests at the Residence.

During our stay, we learnt that there have been Paiza guests who checked in for over two weeks on vacation—and it’s easy to see why. There is so much to do and experience during a stay at MBS, without having to leave the property. For starters, a visit to one of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks is incomplete without visiting the Sands Skypark. The architectural marvel sits on top of all three hotel towers, occupying a space of 1.2 hectares—making it longer than the Eiffel Tower. Take a post-dinner stroll here and pop by the observation deck to soak in the Singapore skyline at night. For the full MBS experience, take a dip in the 150-metre infinity swimming pool that has appeared on uncountable Instagram profiles around the world.
Want a more relaxing activity? Book an intimate and traditional Kungfu Tea Ceremony with a tea sommelier at Paiza Sky Residence, an experience that has become popular among many visitors. It will take place at the Tea Lounge and you will get to try a variety of exquisite teas.
As for my family, we were happy to make full use of the Paiza Premier Suite that we stayed in as it comes with its very own karaoke system with microphones linked to the living room television. The perfect bonding activity for families who want to have fun indoors and sing the night (or day) away while overlooking the glistening waters of the Marina Bay promenade.
Ultimately, we were blown away by the service rendered by the staff of MBS. From the chauffeurs, butlers and housekeepers to the general managers at the Paiza Sky Residence—every one of them embodied and exemplified the true definition of gracious hospitality. We say this with pride now knowing how well guests will be treated at MBS, a landmark of luxury and innovation in Singapore.
