Looking for a new luxury hotel to stay in central Jakarta? Keraton at The Plaza offers elegant suites, memorable dining experiences and personalised service in an unbeatable location

Being an avid traveller who resides in Southeast Asia means you will always have plenty of options on where to jet off to for a quick weekend escapade. Want a little rest and respite? Ubud it is. How about cafe-hopping while shopping at unique local boutiques? Perhaps Ho Chi Minh City may be a good idea. For many Singaporeans, the love we have for this side of the world is clear from how frequent we visit the same Southeast Asian cities and islands–from Bangkok to Boracay. As for city rats like me, we find joy in the hustle and bustle of busy capitals such as Jakarta–a go-to destination for my family and me. A little over an hour’s flight away, the city has evolved over the years and continues to offer a wide variety of local dining options, shopping destinations that cater to both luxury enthusiasts and bargain hunters, and cultural hotspots. As Indonesia is also known for its diverse and distinctive coffee-growing regions, it’s not surprising to find a robust speciality cafe scene in Jakarta that has blossomed over the past few years.

As someone who visits Jakarta at least thrice a year, I was surprised to find that a new hotel quietly made its debut at one of my favourite shopping malls in the city. Keraton at The Plaza, situated within the iconic Plaza Indonesia complex, welcomed guests in December 2024—also marking the entrance of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt in Southeast Asia. The luxury hotel positions itself as a property that “reimagines Indonesia’s royal palaces for the discerning traveller”. To fully experience the brand new hotel, I checked in over a weekend in February for a mini recharge.

First Impressions

Keraton at The Plaza’s enviable central location—just by Bundaran HI (short for Bundaran Hotel Indonesia), one of Jakarta’s most iconic landmarks—places guests in the epicentre of the city’s vibrant shopping, culture, and entertainment scene. While the busy traffic may be a challenge to navigate, guests can immediately put their worries aside once they drive up to Keraton’s private lobby. There is a separate entrance for the Keraton Private Residence, which is an exclusive luxury residence that shares the same building as the hotel.

The guest lobby area is small, with just two large reception desks located on one side. But this intimate space allows hotel staff to easily attend to arriving guests, providing them with adequate and personable service. On top of cold hand towels to clean our hands, we were also offered a menu featuring a variety of locally-inspired drinks and kueh to enjoy while checking in. But that’s not all: guests are also welcomed with a traditional batik scarf, a symbol of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.

These thoughtful gestures were just some of the many ways the hotel staff goes above and beyond in provided unparalleled service and hospitality. Our room was ready at the time of our arrival in the morning, so we were moved swiftly to enjoy it.

The hotel partnered with celebrated interior and design firm Hadiprana to incorporate modern Indonesian flair into the design. Exquisite renditions of batik kawung, one of the oldest batik patterns synonymous with the Javanese royals, were developed to distinguish the bed and TV panels in the guestrooms.
