In collaboration with the Nicol David Organisation (NDO) and Cartier, Tatler celebrated 28 mothers in a lavish hi-tea spread at the Horizon Grill at Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur
Motherhood can be a lonely journey, but it doesn’t have to be. This week, a group of mums in the Nicol David Organisation’s Ibu Legends programme were treated to an afternoon of pampering, fellowship and of course, afternoon tea at Tatler Malaysia’s Ibu Legends Hi-tea at the Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur, presented in collaboration with Cartier.
Attended by a group of 60 individuals, the Sunday afternoon affair was all about celebrating motherhood and honouring the most important women in our lives. It opened with a speech by NDO co-founder Datuk Nicol Ann David, who took an opportunity to encourage all the ‘Ibu Legends’ in the room for their dedication to their children’s development and education. She also gave a shoutout to her mother, Ann Marie David who was also in attendance at this hi-tea.

Next, the ladies had the opportunity to hear a fireside chat on juggling motherhood, career and wellbeing in the modern age, featuring entrepreneur Marion Caunter as well as Khazanah Nasional executive director of group sustainability and advocacy, Dato' Shahira Ahmed Bazari and Sunway University professor of planetary health Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood, who is also former president and founder of humanitarian organisation Mercy Malaysia.
In this insightful fireside chat moderated by NDO CEO Mariana de Reyes, all three ladies touched on how motherhood changed their lives, the importance of strong family support, and learning to ask for help as a mother. The fireside chat ended with encouraging words from each speaker addressed to all the mums in the room about weathering life’s storms and understanding your purpose in life to withstand its greatest challenges.

This was followed by a short sharing session with School of Concepts founder and Cartier Women’s Initiative 2023 fellow Mint Lim, who flew into Kuala Lumpur from Singapore just for this event.
During this heart-to-heart session with Tatler Malaysia’s Front & Female editor Tania Jayatilaka, Lim opened up about her journey growing up with dyslexia, words of wisdom from her father, and the importance of community and solidarity amongst women founders, recounting the incredible opportunities and experiences she has enjoyed thanks to the Cartier Women’s Initiative ecosystem.
Tea was served after this–a lavish Bridgerton-inspired hi-tea spread by Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur’s Horizon Grill. Dressed in their pastel florals to complement the tea spread and the Horizon Grill’s floral decor, the women gathered to snap selfies with Marion Caunter and the other special guests from ThriveWell, Naluri Hospital, Yayasan Hasanah, and Cartier, taking advantage of the beautiful panoramic views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline from the outdoor deck.
