Cover Oppo has made a significant return to the premium smartphone segment with its Find X8 Pro

We take a spin on the newly launched Oppo Find X8 Pro to discover how this smartphone can be a photography powerhouse without skimping on style, speed, or smarts

In today’s smartphone market, cameras are not just an added feature—they’re often the main event. Whether it’s capturing stunning landscapes, snapping portraits, or creating content for social media, the camera is often a deciding factor for buyers.

With the Find X8 Pro, Oppo has set out to redefine what a smartphone camera can do with a sleek powerhouse that takes smartphone photography to a whole new level while nailing every other aspect of what a flagship device should be.

Although I only had the phone for a few days, here are my thoughts based on my experience with it.

Let’s start with the cameras because, honestly, they’re a showstopper. Oppo continues its partnership with Hasselblad to deliver the Hasselblad Master Camera System, featuring four 50MP cameras, including not one but two periscope telephoto lenses—a global first.

With a focal range spanning 15mm to over 300mm, you can shoot everything from sweeping landscapes to detailed close-ups of faraway subjects with zero quality loss. The AI-enhanced Telescope Zoom is like having a pro-grade lens in your pocket, making distant objects sharp and detailed even at extreme zoom levels.

During the day, the Find X8 Pro produces vibrant, punchy images with spot-on exposure and minimal noise. At night, it’s just as impressive, capturing bright, natural shots with fantastic detail and well-controlled shadows. Whether you’re a casual snapper or a photography enthusiast, this phone delivers.

In terms of video, the Find X8 Pro also impresses, and I can see content creators appreciating its video capabilities. With Dolby Vision HDR recording at 4K/60fps available across all cameras, including the front-facing 32MP sensor, this phone is built for creating high-quality content. Adding to its appeal is the innovative Lightning Snap feature, which allows users to capture burst photos at an impressive seven frames per second using a touch-sensitive strip on the device’s right side. This strip also doubles as a quick-launch camera control, making it a handy tool for capturing moments on the fly.

But a great phone isn’t just about cameras, it’s also about how it feels and fits on your palm. The Find X8 Pro is sleek and surprisingly light for a device with a 6.78-inch display. At 8.24mm thick and weighing just 215g, it’s ergonomic, stylish, and easy to hold. The quad-curved glass design flowing into a durable aluminium frame makes it feel premium, and it’s tough, too, with Armour Shield construction and IP68/IP69 certifications for water and dust resistance.

Speaking of that display, it’s big, bold, and beautiful. The quad-curved AMOLED screen is sharp, colourful, and immersive, perfect for everything from streaming Netflix to scrolling endlessly on TikTok. According to Oppo, it didn’t just focus on looks but also toughness, as the phone is built for durability, handling splashes, drops, and even hot water jet sprays (for reasons we’ll let you figure out).

Under the hood, the Find X8 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip, delivering lightning-fast performance and incredible efficiency. Whether you’re gaming, multitasking, or using Oppo’s AI features, the phone doesn’t break a sweat. And about that AI—it’s pretty neat. Powered by Google’s Gemini LLM, it can translate text instantly, identify objects in photos, and even edit your pictures using generative AI, which I thoroughly enjoyed despite its simplicity compared to desktop AI image generators.

There’s also a unique Quick Button that doubles as a camera launcher and zoom controller, adding a fun, tactile element to the phone. And if battery life is a concern, fear not—this phone lasts all day and comes with an 80W fast charger. Available in Pearl White and Space Black, the Find X8 Pro is as stylish as it is functional. The Pearl White shimmers subtly in the light, with each phone sporting a unique pattern, while the Space Black finish is timeless and fingerprint-resistant.

In a market dominated by the usual suspects, Oppo has proven with the Find X8 Pro that they’re not just playing the game—they’re changing it. If you’re looking to switch things up and want a phone that’s as capable as it is beautiful, this might be something to consider.
