We take the newly launched Oppo Watch X for a test run in the streets of Bangkok
In the ever-evolving world of wearable technology, smartwatches stand at the forefront. Possibly the most popular choice for anyone looking to cross the accessory and tech threshold, smartwatches are a prime choice as they meld the useful features of smartphones and put them on your wrist. You can use them to receive notifications, reply to messages, and access various apps. As wearable technology evolves, more and more smartwatches come with sophisticated fitness trackers that can analyse every move.
As such, Oppo’s latest offering, the Oppo Watch X, stands out with its commendable craftsmanship and hardware-software synergy. Made available nationwide last month, we managed to get our hands on one while attending the Oppo Bangkok City Run, and here’s our review of the watch.

Firstly, the watch features an elegant yet modern design that makes it suitable for any occasion, whether you’re looking to dress down for a sporting activity or dress up for something more formal. Lightweight and smooth on the finishings, the watch sits comfortably on your wrist, though at 1.43 inches in size, those with a smaller wrist might feel that it’s a tad big.
Featuring an anti-fingerprint coating and a sapphire crystal glass display, active users won’t have to worry about damaging the watch in the slightest since it is IP68 certified and passes the military-grade MIL-STD-810H environmental testing. According to Oppo, the watch was tested to perform in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius and can withstand water pressure up to 5ATM (roughly the pressure of about 50 metres underwater).

Starting at 6am in the morning, our 5km run kicks off along the road of the Grand Palace fence, weaving through the historic sites of Bangkok like the Phu Pha Suthat Fort and Wat Pho temple, offering a serene view of the city devoid of its typical congestion.
Its precision dual-frequency GPS supports both L1 and L5 GPS bands, which means it can acquire satellite signals quickly, thereby pinpointing the location more accurately during a run, cycling or other activities, be it in the woods or the streets.

During my run, I can easily check and access all kinds of analysis offered in the watch. This includes running posture and pacing details like ground contact time (GCT), GCT balance, and vertical oscillation, all in real-time to better understand my performance and make adjustments accordingly. It’s pretty much a smart running assistant on your wrist.

Using AI technology, the pro grade sports tracking feature in the watch lets it auto detect workouts like walking, hiking, swimming, rowing and more. Of course, the standout feature for us Malaysians would be its badminton feature. Currently, the Oppo Watch X is the only watch in the market that provides dedicated pro-grade badminton analysis. You can track shot distribution and swing speed, and it can even tell if you’re hitting forehand, backhand, overhand or underhand shots.

The battery life can last up to 100 hours on smart mode with a single charge. When power needs to be topped up, Oppo’s fast charging tech delivers power at lightning speeds with 10 minutes of charge giving the watch 24 hours of usage, while a 60-minute charge gives it 100 per cent battery. With the Power Saver Mode, the battery life can be extended to 12 days. Mind you this is with sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring and other daily activities still running as usual.
All in all, the Oppo Watch X emerges not just as a gadget but as a testament to the seamless fusion of form and function. From its elegant design that complements any occasion to its robust fitness tracking capabilities catering to the most active lifestyles, the Oppo Watch X is a standout innovative wearable. With its impressive battery life and cutting-edge technology, it promises to keep pace with the dynamic lives of its users, making it an indispensable companion for those who refuse to compromise on style, performance, or convenience.
