What are your projects in the last two years that you are most proud of?

Tim Yap (TY): My company, Yaparazzi, pioneered events in the Web3 space that launched in Manila and New York. Our Big Apple debut happened at the New York Stock Exchange for NFT NYC. We organised a 16 hands degustation dinner for 100, featuring eight of Manila's top chefs, and developed and executed the PR campaigns for Moet Hennessy. My team also did the opening campaign for Celine and spearheaded a special partnership with Amanpulo while being on top of their New Year's Eve festivities. And of course, we organised the Pink Ball for Estée Lauder PH last October 13, 2022, and there's my annual Halloween Ball.

Who do you look up to for guidance, inspiration or mentorship?

TY: The late Freddie Santos was my mentor, I would go to him or call him before every hosting job. For the collaborative person that I am today, behind that is my industry mother Tita Millet Mananquil. I also look up to Sheila Lirio Marcelo who became very close to me. She inspires me for being a bridge between people and brands, like an Oprah for Filipinos all over the world.

What challenges do you see now in your respective industry? How do you intend to help address these challenges?

TY: The challenge is to make sure we do not become repetitive. The industry needs to focus on creativity and take things to the next level. Take, for example, lack of budget which is always blamed for a lack of creative thinking. We need to have more fun and not be stuck up in old ways of thinking. Leadership by doing things not with cookie-cutter ways, but really going the extra mile to do things properly is how we can address the situation. We continue to collaborate with other agencies to help push this. During the pandemic, we helped set up LEAP, a league of events and activations agencies, to have a continuous dialogue with the people in the industry.

We cannot be the same as before because we do not improve that way.

What are your plans for the coming years and what keeps you going?

TY: We plan to do more events globally while also maintaining the stuff we do locally. Our PR arm is also looking at expanding to other markets, overseeing Southeast Asia and India for our regional accounts.

What can you say to those who'd like to follow in your footsteps?

TY: Follow your dreams. Pursue your passions. Be interested in people. Learn from everyone. Have fun!
