For its inaugural ball, Estée Lauder Companies Philippines hosted a charity gala in honour of The Breast Cancer Campaign’s 30th anniversary to support the Philippine Foundation For Breast Care

When the late Evelyn H Lauder laid the foundation for Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign in 1992, the pink ribbon became its insignia. This campaign has since grown to become a global movement that has raised millions of dollars in lifesaving research, education, and medical services.

It is only fitting that in its 30th year, pink has once again found its significance as the colour of hope for life and an unrelenting crusade to put women’s health front and centre in Estée Lauder’s The Pink Ball. Held last October 13, the charity gala brought together some of society’s most esteemed guests for a great cause with the help of Kaye Tinga, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Tim Yap, Tatler Philippines, Yaparazzi, Moss Manila, and Shangri-la The Fort.

“For the first time, The Estée Lauder Companies, Philippines Affiliate is hosting a charity gala in honour of The Breast Cancer Campaign’s 30th anniversary to support the Philippine Foundation For Breast Care (Kasuso Inc) in providing free mammograms to underprivileged women in need,” shared Estée Lauder Companies PH ’s Country General Manager Sharyn Wong in an exclusive interview with Tatler.

In an inspiring gesture of generous patrons,  the charity ball raised around 10 million pesos. “We united with our partners, friends, employees, and the breast cancer support community with the initial goal to raise 6M pesos to fund 4000 free mammograms and we are pleased to share that we have surpassed this and raised 9.8M, allowing us to fund over 6,000 mammograms,” said Wong.

Aileen Antolin, one of the trustees of the Philippine Foundation for Breast Care Inc, shared that she “will remember to be in that room for the rest of (her) life.”

“If you’ve been where we came from, in my first years in the foundation when it was so hard to get the attention of people, and finally being in the same room with these people, which Estée Lauder made possible, it was overwhelming. It took a lot of knocking on shut doors, but now it’s finally coming together. Finally, [these women] get to have a bridge, even if just one small bridge, through the mammogram program where they can be finally diagnosed and avail of the treatments-–that’s beyond words,” she said.

Also in attendance were industry movers, celebrities, and decorated personalities, all dressed in shades of pink. Beautiful music enveloped the air of the Grand Ballroom as Stephanie Kienle Gonzales, Ronnie Fortich, Gian Magdangal, Kayla Rivera, Arman Ferrer, Kate Torralba, and Martin Nievera swooned guests with their musical performances.

Hope prevailed that night for all breast cancer patients and survivors alike. Maria Lourdes del Rosario, chairwoman of the foundation, applauded this effort. “I really have to salute The Estée Lauder Companies through the leadership of Sharyn Wong to have completed a whole cycle from beginning to end as they said ‘this is yours now for the foundation, and let it have life and save lives,’” she said.

Wong vowed to continue their commitment to their worldwide campaign to end breast cancer. She said, “we will remain committed to taking and inspiring meaningful action to support the cause, grow our contribution to charitable organizations and work towards providing early detection programs for those who need them most in this Breast Cancer Campaign month and beyond.”
