The successful repealing of Section 377A

The LGBTQ+ community in Singapore took one step forward as Section 377A of the Penal Code was repealed. The law had previously been introduced under British colonial rule that criminalised sex between men.

The repeal of Section 377A came after years of debate among parliament members and citizens. This move made Singapore the latest country in Asia to progress on gay rights, behind Thailand, Taiwan, and India.
