Ever wondered how the planets influence the personality of your favourite K-pop leaders? From BTS’s RM to Big Bang’s G-Dragon, astrologer Deborah Lynna takes a deeper look into the astrology charts of these South Korean stars

There are various ways K-pop groups choose their leaders—they might be chosen based on their age or their training time with the entertainment companies. Whatever the process may be, here we shift gears to take a look at leadership styles of K-pop leaders based on their astrological charts. Many of you who have even a passing interest in astrology might know that we are more than our sun signs. The same holds true for K-pop leaders such as Twice’s Jihyo or Big Bang’s G-Dragon. So what kind of leaders are they and how do the planets influence them? Let’s find out.

Leo: Big Bang’s G-Dragon and Seventeen’s S Coups

Leos are king of the castle.

Big Bang’s G-Dragon is a good seven years older than Seventeen’s S Coups. They are both Leos, making them perfect for the classic leading role. G Dragon’s strong Mars in Aries also tells us that he’s not afraid to go for what he wants. While Leo is already a naturally artistic and creative sign, what’s equally notable is the placement of Mercury—his communication planet—giving him a talent for writing lyrics. He is responsible for 23 number one songs such as Heartbreaker (2009) and Who you? (2013) in South Korea’s Circle Digital Chart, which was previously known as the Gaon Digital Chart.

In comparison, Seventeen’s S Coups has much more Leo firepower with three planets strongly placed in Leo and Mars. Mercury in Leo will make him more verbose where necessary. He does, however, have an Earthy side which takes things seriously when he deals with business, thanks to the Capricorn Moon. An important part of his chart will be learning to voice his concerns at the negotiation table, something which he’ll be learning to do in Saturn return next year.

Aquarius: Twice’s Jihyo and Enhype’s Jungwon

The opposite of Leo is Aquarius, so you can expect your Aquarian leader to be interested in the psychological dynamics of the group (unless they have a whole lot of Leo in their chart!). Aquarians are lovers of equality, but also have a strong sense of independence.

Since Aquarians are very involved in their  group of friends, it’s not surprising that Twice’s Jihyo is in charge of eight other band members. Being a Scorpio rising, she’s actually naturally shy, but the Moon in Scorpio commands a sense of intense bonding of her band members. She is an incredibly hard worker and her only downfall as the captain is learning when to relax.

Enhypen’s Jungwon has a calm, serious tone which is typical of a Saturnian sign. Once again, this Aquarian leads a large group of eight members. His dreamy quality is linked to the Neptune Sun conjunction, so he’s probably partly on earth, and partly just a little spacey. Thankfully Moon-Jupiter in Virgo and an earthy Mars keep him and his band grounded.

Virgo: BTS’s RM and (G)IDLE’s Soyeon

You wouldn’t think of Virgos as natural-born leaders but their dedication to the team can make them great bandmates.

Rapper Soyeon has set her aims high and she’s not afraid to go for it. As a Capricorn rising, her business-savvy mind has helped (G) IDLE conquer many milestones along with her bandmates. The combination of Virgo and Leo planets opposing Uranus means she leads through service, while also giving her a creative lens that she’s not afraid to express. Being one of the few female rappers and producers to push the boundaries of female K-pop bands, she will also have a life in which her confidence will blossom in unexpected ways when she is older. Watch this space.

Her Virgo peer Kim Nam-joon aka RM from the inimitable BTS has a deeper, watery flavour to his chart. Although just as interested in precision and detail as Soyeon, he is led by his emotional desire to explore his own self-transformative experiences. The pensive qualities of all his watery planets along with a wild Sagittarius Moon makes this one a leader with a philosophical bent.

Gemini: Itzy’s Yeji and Exo’s Suho

Everyone loves to hate on a Gemini but the truth is they are multifaceted, multi-skilled individuals. Mercury, Gemini’s ruling planet, is in fact a key planet for music-making and often you will find a Gemini with lots of talents.

Itzy’s Yeji has a powerful stellium of Gemini planets, which, along with her Leo rising, make her a natural leader. Her life is in the spotlight, although she may end up overworking herself—the Gemini nervous system does have some tendencies to burn out more quickly.

In comparison, Exo’s Suho is much more grounded given the emphasis on earth in his chart. His style is less flashy, and we can see Virgo featuring prominently in his chart, which means service to others is an important part of his leadership style.
