Event creators Cocoa Zhou and Alexander Langslow finally gathered their people at Camp Taiwan—a mountain venue that has been in his family for over two decades—for a wedding celebration almost five years in the making

The way Cocoa Zhou and Alexander Langslow met is not unusual in Hong Kong: at a party, introduced through mutual friends in 2021. Their wedding five years later was a little less predictable: on May 1, in the mountains of Wanli, just north of Taipei, they finally held a celebration that brought everyone together.

The venue holds a particularly special place in the couple’s hearts. Camp Taiwan is where Langslow spent eight summers as a camp counsellor, and which has been in his family for more than 20 years. Located within the property is the Daping Mountain Retreat, a boutique villa enclosed by untouched forests and freshwater springs, with sweeping views of Taiwan’s northern coastline.

One hundred guests gathered for what the couple envisioned as a sophisticated family affair that would, over the course of the evening, transform into something closer to the productions they are known for. Zhou is a DJ and the duo are the founders of HE.R, the invitation-only musical evening that has become a fixture in Hong Kong’s cultural calendar, and co-creators of Open, the block party that took over Chater Road in March at the end of Art Month. The same attention to F&B and production that defines both those events was very much in evidence here—only this time, the couple were the occasion. “We did not want to do a traditional hotel or destination wedding,” Zhou explains.

The ceremony was officiated by Langslow’s older brother, Alistair Wood, while the couple’s son, almost-two-year-old Liam, served as ring bearer. In his vows, Langslow told Zhou: “You are my warrior queen. My fiercest ally. The love of my life. You, I have chosen above all others to go to battle with; to share my victories with; to embrace our losses together and persevere lovingly through hardships.”

Zhou wore five dresses: her favourite was a Chinese-style qipao tailor-made by Hong Kong designer Shili Menon, while Langslow wore Ascot Chang. Dinner, emceed by the groom himself, was rooted in Taiwanese night market tradition and elevated by the Grand Hyatt—each course introduced with the warmth and dry wit of a man entirely at ease in front of a crowd. Speeches were given by a close circle of friends including Veronica Chou, who welcomed the couple into the banquet hall, and a DJ set by friends Alex Nude and Hugo Belloy carried the night into the early hours. Other guests in attendance included the groom's brother, Malcolm Wood, as well as Edwin Chuang and Danny Yeung.

The wedding was exactly what the couple had set out to create: intimate without being small, celebratory without being excessive and with everyone they love, watching.
