The celebration, which highlighted the milestones of the arts and culture exchange platform between France and Hong Kong, took place at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, and raised funds to support cultural and educational development as well as local artists.
Hong Kong’s chief executive John Lee and Christile Drulhe, the consul general of France in Hong Kong and Macau, officiated the gala alongside French May Arts Festival co-chairmen Pansy Ho and Mignonne Cheng. More than 200 people, including event chairs, patrons and guests Francis Lui, Michelle Cheng-Chan, Sonia Cheng, Canning Fok, William Ma, Adrienne Hui, Winnie Chiu, Kevin and Sabrina Lam, Brandon and Jenny Chau, Claudine Ying, Joanna Lui-Hickox and Leigh Tung-Chou were in attendance. HK$12 million was raised, which will go towards the Association Culturelle France of Hong Kong, the French May’s non-profit organisation.

“Tonight is an opportunity to celebrate the festival’s contribution over the past 30 years,” said Ho to applause. “With French May’s renowned programming of visual arts, cinema, music and dance, it has established itself as a vital cultural platform, and this gala dinner is a testament to its strength and vitality.” Guests were delighted by a French quartet performance, and an energetic live auction conducted by Sara Mao, the director of Christie’s Education in Asia Pacific.
Established in 1993, the French May is one of the largest cultural events in Asia, with more than 100 programmes presented across two months—and the event was a reminder that it’s not going anywhere, any time soon.
