Here’s what you missed:

There are very few people who can get the Tatler community out of their house at 10.30pm on a Wednesday night. On March 27, partygoers from around the city headed to Dragon-i, the legendary fashion and culture hotspot founded by Gilbert Yeung, for a Dragon Icons-themed Art Week party.

As the largest art museum in the western United States, with a collection of more than 149,000 objects that highlight 6,000 years of artistic expression across the globe, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has made a name for itself in Hong Kong with its unforgettable event experiences during Art Basel.

In collaboration with Shanghai Tang, who is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the party celebrated the Year of the Dragon and was hosted by princess Alia Al-Senussi and entrepreneur Dino Sadhwani. Previous editions of the event were hosted at cultural and historic sites around Hong Kong, including the Harilela Mansion in 2017, Jumbo Kingdom in 2018, The Mills in 2019 and K11 Atelier in 2023.

“This year, we want to make it about a moment of introspection and really go back to basics, but in a different way, with those nearest and dearest to us,” said Al-Senussi. “We want to make [this year’s party] about iconic Hong Kong. How better to commemorate and celebrate than to take over Dragon-i—and fully unleash?”

And unleash they did—guests including Tina Leung, Kevin Poon, Ed Tang and Eleanor Lam came dressed to the nines to celebrate the return of the annual affair. Sadhwani and Al-Senussi worked with Victoria Tang-Owen, Shanghai Tang’s director of arts, culture and heritage and an Asia’s Most Influential honouree, to create the event’s dress code. “We wanted everyone to feel bold and daring, and embrace the fusion of traditions and modernity—in attire and in attitude,” Al-Senussi said. Think dragon-scaled cheongsams and red and gold glittery outfits, with the  nightclub filled with neon signs that read “desire”, while giant dragon characters hang from the ceiling.

The true measure of an epic party lies in the queue of people eager to gain entry. Hundreds of Hong Kong’s party people were in attendance, and another hundred were on the periphery, hoping to catch a glimpse of the magic inside. Eva Chow, LACMA’s board of trustee member and the founder of Khee Soju, was not in attendance, but her flavourful cocktails kept the partying going til the wee hours.

Thank goodness for Easter weekend the following day for some much-needed R&R, because, as always, it was one hell of a night.
