Amidst the captivating tranquility of Kamala Beach, one of Phuket's most enchanting areas , The Residences at InterContinental Phuket Resort is not merely an ultra-luxury residence; it's a perfect weaving together of local culture, sustainability, and sophistication. Tatler spoke with Proud - Proudputh Liptapanlop, Executive Director of Proud Real Estate Public Co., Ltd., about the creation of 'Coastal Sanctuary,' a project that is more than just a home, but a masterpiece where owners can truly live in harmony with nature.

Commemorate Local Beauty
When people think of Kamala Beach, they picture the tranquility and traditional charm. But for Proudputh, the challenge was to elevate the luxury level while preserving the charm of the fishing village.
“At our company, our philosophy has always been to commemorate local beauty,” Proudputh begins. “Part of our inspiration comes from viewing Phuket as a whole. In the past, people compared Phuket to the ‘Dragon Island,’ and if a dragon is in the water, it is the ‘Naga.’ This concept became the starting point for all our design work, from interpreting the Traibhumikatha (a mythical creature believed to reside in the earthly realms) to the details of the architecture and interior design. We want every element to convey the same story harmoniously.”
This residence boasts only 111 private units in a low-rise building design. Proudputh chose not to create a striking contrast to its surroundings, but rather to seamlessly integrate the design with the landscape. “We strived for the simplest contemporary style possible, to blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment and landscape. The charm of Kamala lies in its sea view in the front and mountains in the back. Therefore, the residence's layout positions the building in front of the mountain range, with the swimming pool in the center, opening up uninterrupted views of the Andaman Sea and Kamala Beach.”
She further explained the definition of luxury hidden in the design details: "We didn't want the architecture to be a focal point, but rather to blend into the lifestyle. Luxury, therefore, lies in the small, intentionally crafted details, such as the 'recessed corners' of the rooms, a characteristic of traditional Thai and Peranakan architecture. We adapted and incorporated this into the furniture and finishing touches, conveying a sense of sophistication without being flashy."

Live Beyond Boundaries in Paradise
What gives this project its "spirit" is the collaboration with renowned artist Pomme Chan, who reinterpreted the story of 'Traiphumikatha' through contemporary design. "We drew inspiration from the 'Himmapan Forest' and the Anodatta Lake, which, according to belief, are the center of all waterways, and reinterpreted them through colors, patterns, and the atmosphere of the space. Pomme Chan designed a special pattern specifically for the project. Within those patterns, there are hidden details of Himmapan animals incorporated into various elements, which were then used as wallpaper to decorate the rooms and the common areas of the building. This allows residents to gradually discover these unique stories and details through their living experience," Proudputh explained.
This attention to detail is reflected in the landscape design, which blends the mythical world with the real world. Proudputh continued, “We describe this project as 'On the edge of paradise.' The inspiration for the trees used comes from a combination of 'Panchapruek,' or five plants found in paradise, blended with native plants like the 'Thalang Lord Palm,' which is found only in Phuket. It's about drawing on local charm to create something unique that can't be found anywhere else.”

All is Well
Proud Real Estate adheres to the philosophy that a home is not just a place to live, but the starting point for a sustainable and fulfilling life. Therefore, this project has received Fitwel certification from the United States, which oversees the wellness of residents in every aspect.
“Our corporate philosophy is 'ALL IS WELL.' We believe we're not just selling houses, but designing a better lifestyle for people. We strive to create a way of life that fulfills the needs of a good life, and the most important starting point is our home. Because a good home isn't just about beautiful design, but also about making its inhabitants feel comfortable both physically and mentally. This includes getting adequate rest, sleeping soundly, breathing clean air, and living in a dust-free home. When life at home is balanced and of high quality, people will have the energy to go out and live life to the fullest, find inspiration, and live life to the fullest.”
She also spoke about the interior innovations carefully selected to enhance the quality of life. "We considered everything from wind direction and sunlight to soundproofing materials, and even the color temperature of the lighting. This includes innovations like the GROHE SPA AquaSymphony, an experience shower and hydrotherapy in the pool to relax the body and mind. And of course, residents can also use the hotel's wellness facilities, including 'Sati Spa' and other wellness activities, to create a community where residents can get to know and socialize with neighbors who share a similar lifestyle."

Steward of the Beach
In an era where luxury must come with responsibility, The Residences at InterContinental Phuket Resort has integrated solar power, water recycling systems, and advanced food waste management technologies as part of its sustainable living practices.
“We see ourselves as the stewardess of the beach. We work with the hotel through the Oklin food waste disposer to turn all the food waste into fertilizer. We then give the fertilizer to farmers or schools in Kamala. The students use the fertilizer to grow vegetables, and we buy the vegetables to use in our Jaras or Hom restaurants in the hotel,” Proudputh emphasized. “It’s a long-term relationship where we strive to create a ‘harmony’ among everyone and maintain the ‘sense of inclusion’ of the local community, allowing them to grow alongside us.”

Legacy Asset
From an investment perspective, this project is a Branded Residences that combines the credibility of a world-class brand like InterContinental with superior service standards. This allows residents access to the facilities of a 2-Michelin Keys hotel for two consecutive years, a source of pride for both InterContinental and IHG. “Having hotel services makes life much easier. While you’re away, they have a home care program to keep the house looking good. Cleaning is done regularly, so even if the owner lives on the other side of the world, they don’t have to worry,” said Proudputh.
Furthermore, this project emphasizes the importance of resident 'privacy'. "Therefore, we don't offer daily rentals like other projects. But in the long term, you're guaranteed asset gain and asset appreciation because your home will be maintained with a hotelier's mentality, which is key to increasing the property's value over time."

Sustainable Hub
Before concluding the conversation, Proudputh shared her perspective on Phuket's transition to a new era: "I think Phuket is undergoing an evolution. Previously, we viewed it as a center of mass tourism, but after COVID, everyone is realizing the importance of sustainability. Phuket has a high opportunity to present itself as a 'safe zone' or a hub where people from around the world can escape the hustle and bustle, while its original charm, such as Southern Thai cuisine, batik fabrics, and other indigenous cultures, remains strong and enhances the overall living experience."
The Residences at InterContinental Phuket Resort is more than just a luxury residential project; it's a legacy of living that seamlessly blends the pristine natural surroundings with meticulous attention to detail, all under the guidance of a female executive who believes that 'well-being' is the true reward of sustainable living.
