Nevermore Group’s refined Marriott Penthouse in Penang was designed for the discerning

Marriott Residences in Penang has become the island’s most talked about offerings in terms of luxury real estate. As the northern state’s first branded residence, the 55-storey skyscraper is located between the famous tourist belt of Gurney Drive and Kelawai Road.

The developer commissioned award-winning interior design firm Nevermore to outfit a penthouse in the impressive development with a Director’s Unit. As befitting an address of such prestige, the designers imagined a connoisseur living a gracious lifestyle in the sprawling 6,755 sq ft unit.

“Our opulent penthouse interior draws inspiration from the art of fine living, marrying timeless design with exquisite natural veneer and other premium materials,” recalls Chuah Say Yang, Nevermore Group’s creative director.

“Rooted in the rich tapestry of Penang’s culture, our design seamlessly blends modernity with classic charm, creating a space that transcends the ordinary. With panoramic views of the island, this penthouse promises a lifestyle where opulence meets tranquillity.”

From the first impression, the designers pulled out all the stops with a special design feature to anchor the main living hall. This takes shape as a bar counter, enveloped in exquisite sintered stone, which sets the tone for luxury.

The adjacent full-height wall is adorned with rich natural veneer, calibrated to impart timeless warmth and classic elegance. This harmonious pairing transforms the living space into a sleek sanctuary, where every detail reflects the pursuit of refined design.

Coco Chanel’s words ring true in both fashion and interior design: “Elegance is refusal”. Sophistication lies not in excess but in the discerning ability to exercise restraint.

This is evident in Nevermore’s design ethos where Chuah sums it up best: “Our curation prioritises understated versatility, steering clear of ostentatious glamour, as we believe that elegance speaks through subtlety in this penthouse interior. This project reflects our commitment to elevating the design scene of Malaysia’s high-end residential projects, setting a new standard for luxurious living that marries timeless elegance with contemporary flair.”
